❗ FBM ALERT: Amazon removing 2 day default handling time option

Still showing two days and I’m still using the handling capacity as a throttle if/when I see that I’m getting backed up.

Game on, Amazon, GAME ON!

Media mail & Bound Printed no longer options for me on any orders somehow. I changed nothing and shipped both all day long yesterday… wtf?!

The always, all wise Amazon BOTS have determined that neither one will reach the buyer before the expected delivery window ends.

Unless you have an extremely high number of INR issues just buy it on Stamps/ Pirate Ship/ wherever and put in the tracking number for AMAZON.

The all wise should not be ignored (except all day, every day)…

I really hate this type of reply, man. It’s not helpful really. I buy shipping w/ Amz for their INR coverage.

They’re currently experiencing some kind of bug it seems w/ USPS’ integration or their delivery time expectations… it’s on their end, in other words. I’m curious if anyone else is experiencing this? It’s literally for every order in every corner of the US right now (I ship from VA).

The latest notices of discussions on Amazon have included a NUMBER of people with the issue.
Here is the response to one of them from a MOD –

"@Broken_wing

This has been a common question over the past week. As we move into the peak shipping time of the calendar, the estimated transit time for shipments is extended.

Buy Shipping will only display shipping methods that are estimated to meet the order’s promised delivery date.

Missing carrier or ship method in Buy Shipping

Our above seller help page has some troubleshooting steps you can take if you believe there’s an error and the shipping method should be available. You also have the option to purchase shipping outside of Buy Shipping, as long as it meets the order’s promised delivery date.

I guess you wouldn’t like THEIR response either since they say specifically – “You also have the option to purchase shipping outside of Buy Shipping, as long as it meets the order’s promised delivery date.”

Yes, similar experiences have been widely reported over in the NSFE for the last day or so.

Among the many attempts to get the go-to FMT/CMT member for matters of shipping, KJ_Amazon, to look into this is SAS’s own @Lost_My_Marbles’ post from several hours ago over there:

Good, that’s a helpful link. Thank you. I’ll wait it out till the end of my handling window in the hopes they pull their heads out their ■■■■■, if that’s possible.

The one order I shipped today I was able to buy MM, but not BPM. Not sure if this is a glitch, or due to the fact that it is going to Guam.

BPM might not get there as fast as MM for books being shipped to Guam, although it will likely travel there on the same plane.

BPM has been allowed for certain expedited orders on Amazon, and I have sometimes thrown caution to the wind and shipped that way. No disappointments, so far, with USPS delivery times.

I only use BPM on books I would rather not see again, should there be a problem with shipping.

So it seems every order that came in before midnight last night has this issue. Everything after is fine and allows MM & BPM. So weird… it’s like the restriction is hard coded to the time it came in, even if an order came in a few hours later (today) that is going thousands of miles further and in a later zone.

Also, when I confirm shipment (after having to purchase a label on pirateship), the date options to confirm go no later than today. This makes me think they applied some weird handling time constraint on orders late last night. Even though orders placed today show 2 day handling options. Hmm…

I sometimes think Amazon does certain things, like screwing up FBM shipping, just to mess with our heads.

Was it this one? I can’t see handles. KJ responded but…

:grimacing: so again I say…

Looks like Amazon has started implementing the change in handling times, and people on the NSFE are reporting that Amazon did change their SKU level handling times even if they had it set to longer than 2 days.

Thanks for that example @Springfieldian.

Sometimes the ship method used for the delivery promise is ineligible in Buy Shipping. This may be because the two are calculated at different times. This issue is known by our partner team and they are working on ways to correct or mitigate this problem.

I understand that many sellers have been raising shipping-availability issues in the forums this week. I have been sharing these threads with our partner teams.

These teams are investigating orders to ensure the correct shipping options are being offered, accounting for the extended transit times during peak periods. I will post any updates that I receive.

There’s such a huge jump in threads about buy-shipping.

I have to wonder, does the buy-shipping screen show a delivery deadline? If so, is it absolutely always the same deadline as shown on the order detail page?

Um, the fix is simple. Quit mucking around with our settings!!!

Problem solved.

I’m sorry, but THAT goes against every Amazon policy – both written and unwritten.

It is apparent that Amazon Prime Directive #1 is “If if ain’t broken, fix it so it is”.

KJ just posted this (link, NSFE) less than 10 minutes ago:

The price difference between BPM and MM has gotten to be enough that I use BPM for the vast majority of my books. Even if a $35 book gets lost using BPM that I might have gotten back with MM, I break even in a couple of weeks, since it’s often over $1 in savings per book. But the reality is that I’ve noticed no difference in how they get delivered, and the only case of BPM not being deliverable, I got it back anyway.
And much of the time, when the price gets to be enough to really worry about it, I find that GA or even Priority is such a small premium over MM that I often go with that (generally when it’s over about $150 or so, depending on the price difference and my mood).
