Fun with Wild Animals

Dear Ollie is doing great. Playing like a maniac and eating up a storm again.

Todays the day where we need to completely empty “the box”, bleach it, vacuum every square inch of the house, including the furniture, wipe down all hard surfaces, replace the litter and hope for the best.

This is what the vet said to do. The medication should have killed everything but there could be eggs to cause a reinfection everywhere… :mask:

I never heard of such a thing but let’s follow the advice and see if this works. In 2 weeks he’s getting his 12th (1 time dose) to make sure this is over and done with and 48 hours after that, another massive cleaning…

Yea, this should have been 1 pill when he was a kitten and that’s it for life. He’s on 11, heading for 12…

But Ollie is Special. Not much has gone according to “plan” since his arrival, so…

I have 9 that are still up. Undecorated, but still up.
the other 4 are wrapped and ready to be moved to storage hopefully tomorrow.
I feel you, this year I was just WAY behind!

We had a cat like that too, Sugar. She was a medical mystery to the vet and likely cost us several 10s of thousands over her lifetime. Her being the the sweetest, most loving cat around took the sting out of the money hemorrhaging though.

Cuteness overload from Ollie last night…

While I am at it, why not share a recent picture (from yesterday) of Kara.

Funny way to sleep for a cat.

Yes, I would expect snoring from that position. (If I slept like that I’d wake myself up!)

He used to snore when he was little. Doesn’t anymore.

Anyone ever see a cat like this? He’s literally my shadow 24/7 and hugs me when he sleeps on me.

He’s not like that with anyone else in the house. I feel special. Or maybe I’m about to drop dead and he senses it. :grimacing:

He protecting you…from them.

Have you ever seen a cat stare into space, tracking something that we cannot see? It is because he can see them.

For some reason, completely beyond our ken, one of them is stalking you. Be glad that you have a cat. Treat him well so that he stays around.

I should call this post “Not so much fun with Animals.”

Yesterday Buzzy went missing. I didn’t notice it at first because sometimes he finds a quiet place to catch a nap and he stays there for a long time. It wasn’t until about 4-5 hours later that I noticed that I hadn’t seen him in a while. After a good nap he usually comes looking for me wanting food and/or pets. But he hadn’t shown up.

I started looking for him all over the house, checking each room and calling out to him, looking behind furniture, hidden corners and other places. There are a few rooms where I keep the doors closed in order to keep pets out and I checked those rooms too. I had the door open for one of the closed-door rooms earlier in the day so I checked that room several times, looking under things, behind things, in closets, everywhere, always calling out to him. Nothing. It was now late in the afternoon and starting to get dark.

Then the neighbor’s cat Cricket showed up at my back door, wanting in for a snack. Cricket is Buzzy’s best friend and Buzzy always comes out to greet him. No Buzzy this time. I was beginning to wonder if Buzzy had somehow pushed the storm door open and gotten out. He sometimes pushes inside doors open so that was plausible. Cricket finished his snack and I let him out, and then I went around the neighborhood looking for Buzzy but still couldn’t find him.

I really starting to get worried now and began texting neighbors and checking community boards for lost & found pets. About this time, Cricket wanted back in. He wandered around the house trilling and ended up in front of one of the closed doors acting like he wanted in, something he never does. I opened the door hoping to find Buzzy but he wasn’t there. A short time later Cricket was standing in front of that same door so I opened it again.

Buzzy!!! was standing there and he trotted out like nothing was wrong. I gave him a great big hug and some food.

Part of the problem is that Buzzy is silent. He doesn’t meow. (My sister has a cat that doesn’t meow either). When Buzzy was stuck behind the closed door, he couldn’t call out to me or respond when I called for him. It was his bestie Cricket who helped me find Buzzy. Cricket could hear cat noises that I couldn’t hear and was trilling to Buzzy. And maybe he maybe smell him behind the door. He knew where Buzzy was and that I was looking for him.

All told, Buzzy was missing for about 12 hours. He was now back safe and sound and slept by my side last night.

Here ends the Mystery of the Missing Cat. :smiley_cat:

Initially heartbroken reading this story but so glad it had a happy and purrfect ending! :heart_eyes_cat:

Any different reaction than a totally nonchalant “nothing wrong”, and it wouldn’t be a cat. It would be a dog dressed up as a cat.

Ollie says hi in his majestic kind of way.

Yes, he does have his holiday collar on. Can’t find his other bowtie…

And unlike homework when we were kids, can’t say the dog ate it.

Betcha Ollie could find it if he had a mind to…but unlike our friend @Racing_Stripes’s adventures with Silent Buzzy and Bestie Cricket in the heartwarming post upthread, I strongly 'spect that he don’t wanna.

Well, he’s the one that knows where he hid it…

That’s the thinking. He stashed it somewhere.

He’s a full fledged fetch cat now. Most anything we throw, that he can get into his mouth, he brings back and drops at our feet.

He’s cat #7 for us over the years. I had 1 other cat that fetched. His name was Winter.

At one point, we had all 4 seasons of rescues all at once.

Spring was first - Pure feral that was 9 months old and had already had a litter. We were never able to handle / touch her. Leg rub is all she would do / allow.

Then Summer - Feral kitten. She was quite small and thus grew up to be a people cat.

Then Winter - Someone dropped him on our doorstep in a box. Eyes sealed shut, looked worse than ollies but cleared in 72 hours with meds. He was teeny tiny. Needed to be bottle fed for a couple weeks with KMR.

Then Autumn - Someone’s cat that they let go because he had so many medical issues. I won’t even venture to calculate what we spent on him over the 14 years.

Then there was Charlie and Kara and now Ollie.
