Fun with Wild Animals

Would that more of us were as willing as you and yours have proven to be over the years to Pay It Forward, no matter the status of the recipient for such increasingly-rare largesse, better-off would be ALL of our sojourns upon this mortal coil.

Here in southern California it is raining/hailing as I read this thread. Fortunately the hail is only BB size. But the kittens - who are now 8 months old - are freaking out. They are both following me around, as if I can do something about it.

But they are happy to hear that Buzzy is home safe.

This is Big Bro, our Guard Cat. He often sits by the front gate waiting for us when weā€™re out. He was one of three kittens born to a feral mother, underneath the far side of that bougainvillea bush. The only one still surviving, heā€™ll be 14 this spring.

Some days he sits motionless on that brick for hours, and Iā€™d swear heā€™s part Library Lion.

I think this piece could be the basis of a great childrenā€™s picture book. Know any illustrators?

There is a booming sub-genre of childrenā€™s books about our differences: a cat who doesnā€™t meow seems to fall into this category. Cricketā€™s persistence and friendship would be additional keywords.

Thank you. Iā€™ll have to consider it.

Cricket stayed in my house last night. I fed him and Buzzy breakfast this morning and then Cricket was ready to leave. I opened the door and he said, ā€œNope.ā€ They are doing some road repair near me and the sound of the jackhammers frightened him. I tried again later but the noise still bothered him. Now they are finally done with the noisy part and things have quieted down. I was able to let him out.

I did self-publish a book about local history years ago. It was a lot of work to pull everything together to get it finished. Not sure if I want to do something like that again.

Snapchat picture of Ollieā€™s brother Charlie. They look nothing alike and heā€™s a real chubber already.

I suspect they fixed him early. Heā€™s got a tiny head a big bodyā€¦

Just checked the invoice from last week at the vet. 10.94lbs for Ollie. He gained all his weight back and a little more in the last couple weeks.

How to scare a cat who is sitting next to you:
.
I screamed so loud when Hardman caught the winning pass poor Buzzy ran into the kitchen.

There are more fireworks going off all over town right now than on New Yearā€™s or July4.

Agreed.

I suspect that sometime in the late 2040s or early 2050s, NFL historians will note that Super Bowl LVII was the first to feature 45 (or more) members of the National Football Leagueā€™s Canton, OH-enshrined Hall of Fame appearing on the same stadiumā€™s playing field, and along its sidelines, & up in the coaching staff-controlled skyboxes.

Best since the Giants come back many years ago with seconds leftā€¦ I had a little more stake in that game but this was a good one for sure.

You want to put water in here??

BTW, the magenta cat toy is marketed as ā€œkitty springsā€. I highly recommend them.

Hi all feline fansā€¦Would like to introduce Fur Elise, Divine Diva of our little household. Also, since this is ā€œwildā€ animals fun, please also welcome Dulcinea the cockatoo, named after the muse/ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  of Don Quixote:

Sheā€™s beautiful! And I think I see a bit of diva attitude there.

Thank you very much!. Oh yes she is quite the queen. Adopted her about 5 months ago. If you disturb her while she naps she gives you a loud meow of disapproval .and maybe even a swatā€¦ no claws, just a swat. Our first cat was a stray tabby who adopted us , and was always a perfect gentleman and still is fully and painfully in our hearts. Lost him a year ago to a speeding car. Now there is a sweet black stray who we feed, who lives outside on our covered patio. We keep Fur Elise indoors only. Would love to have the black one inside too as the road we live on is too treacherous; but Fur Elise might eat her alive. They stare at each other through the patio door and when the black one eats, Fur Elise flattens her nose and sometimes growls. Any suggestions appreciated!

Wish I could, we have a ā€œSugar Shackā€ in town, I have posted images to celebrate snowfalls here in New Hampshire on SAS. Hank, (he passed a few years ago, we were lucky to be involved with his hospice) had a cat called boots.

He warned us about him, the cat loved to be petted it would sit on the barn loading dock and rub against you all lovey dovey. Untilā€¦ without warning ā€œBootsā€ would strike out at you and rip your your skin off if it was exposed.

Life on a farm.

Yes itā€™s rough to feel helpless to help the wild ones who visit. (BTW thank you for using ā€œloved to be pettedā€ , versus ā€œloves to be petā€ ,which raises my hackles, even though it is rather common usage.)

Itā€™s been awhile since weā€™ve had an Ollie sitingā€¦ He turned 11 months old today and is doing well and packing on the lbs. Started restricting his diet today because he put on 2lbs in less than 6 weeksā€¦

Starting to develop that classic cat hanging belly. We canā€™t have that! Donā€™t need another diabetic cat. Vetā€™s advice when we first got him ā€œDONā€™T LET HIM GET FAT!ā€

Are cats getting fat because they are no longer allowed to go outside to roam as they wish? Might this be the same cause as a rise in childhood obesity?
