Fun with Wild Animals

Thank you for the report. Such a pretty boy.

Will they be able to save his eye with the ointment or will he need further treatment? Yes, feral cats do tend to have URI’s and the eye infections that go with them.

Best wishes to Ollie. (This is where we need the “caring” or “hugs” emoji).

They are fairly confident that this will clear up.

His good eye wasn’t so good on Friday and now it’s literally perfect. It was hard to tell what color it was so there was some ulceration in that eye too.

The topical antibiotic coupled with the oral antibiotic (things he was on already) + the oral anti-viral + the lycine should do the trick.

He’s very busy right now being out cold sleeping on my daughters chest. He’s a freaking mush like most orange cats and that was the idea… Gingers have the best disposition and he seems totally bonded to us already.

Schedule is up…

Update…

His eye might be slightly better but the good news is my sister in laws sister (Our usual Vet that was off yesterday), just stopped by and dropped off the anti-viral eye drops that are on backorder. She has a secret stash for her own cats.

She took a good look at his eyes and thinks he will be OK / heal. He may have some adhesion that they can take care of when he’s out when she fixes him in a month or so.

Now he’s on 6 medications, the poor thing. Round the clock intensive care split up with some very feisty playing…

He’s doing great, other than that one pesky eye. His upper respiratory infection is more or less gone. Other than a sneeze here and there, his breathing is no longer audible. Now all you can hear is the motorboat purring sounds. :hearts:

Life is indeed tough… Lol

The bookstore I work in occasionally just got our new cat. We lost the other just before Christmas. New cat is 13 years old, not working out in the home he was in. Boss spent the night with her in the bookstore Sat night and stayed most of the day Sunday (bookstore is closed Sundays). When she would hide, he blocked that space, but she is good at hiding. Getting her used to him and the new space. Sleeps there again Sunday night, wakes up Monday morning at 6:00 and she is nowhere to be found. It’s a very small store. He then spends three hours hunting, even in places she can’t be, because the door to the back room was never opened, etc.

By the time I arrive at 9:00 am, his brain is about to explode. Because short of vaporizing, she HAS to be in the store. I repeat all his searches. He leaves at 10:30 to do errands, but has anxiety at the best to times, so is nearly distraught that he has lost her, or she is stuck somewhere suffering. Around 11:30 the person who gave her to the store, sends a note that if Pippin is still missing when she is off work, she will come and call in her voice and shake treat bag. What a Brilliant Idea!! I shake treat bag and the wall lets out a meow. Somehow, she had jumped onto a 7 foot high bookcase, filled with books that she did not dislodge, went behind them and fell into the corner where two bookcases meet in the corner. Took about an hour and the help of two customers to unload bookcase and get her out. That is one High Maintenance cat.

Sorry for such a long story, I know no other cat lovers to share it with.

Those pesky cats do get themselves into trouble at any age…

When we first moved into this house we obviously moved our 2 kitties with us.

The entire basement is finished, and I mean everything, including the boiler room. One teeny tiny exception… I think the idiots that built this house (and they are idiots), put in the water heaters and furnace / air handler before the dry wall guys arrived. There was a small area they couldn’t get to which opened up about a 10" wide area that wraps around the entire foundation of the house.

We couldn’t find one of our cats and guess where she was… Took hours to figure it out and she didn’t come out for almost 24 hours because it was a new space for them and she was scared out of her mind.

Needless to say, that door to that room was never left open again.

I can read a cat story of any length so thanks for posting!

Look at that face!!! :hugs:

He’s such a cute little guy. Adding the 6th med yesterday hasn’t yielded any improvement with the bad eye. Other than that, he’s perfect. Tummy issues are gone, upper respiratory is totally cleared.

Getting that eye better is the #1 focus. Now that his little immune system is done fighting everything else, hopefully it can focus on that one area.

I don’t see a pupil at the moment so worried. Not sure I saw one on his good eye last Friday and that eye is now absolutely perfect so there’s still hope.

Slightly less crusty when he woke up this morning. I’m Ok with a perfectly imperfect cat as long as he’s happy and he seems to be very happy that he landed here.

We are as well but this is a lot of work / time. Of course my kids that promised to help are pretty much nowhere to be found unless it’s play or nap time for Ollie.

Keep in mind that they are 18 and 14.

If I wasn’t so concerned about Ollie, I would put my foot down and say you take care of him, because you wanted him and said you would or nobody will.

When I was their age and younger I was taking care of my pets all by myself always because my parents said the same thing I’m thinking and they meant it…

This made me think of the video of the guy rescuing “a” kitten. I’m not good with figuring out how to post links, but it comes up if you google “Man rescues kitten on the side of the road.”

Keep up the good work!

Deleted, they don’t want to share. Search as @booknut7 said.

ETA: Great minds think alike.

Just did the 4th eye clean out / medication (there are 2 different meds) for the day. 2 more to go tonight.

Indications that the adhesion is releasing finally. That would be great regardless of what happens with his vision / color. If it doesn’t release, he will need an operation to release it which won’t be fun for him or us.

His good eye had some adhesion last week which cleared in 36 hours.

When I say adhesion, for educational purposes, that’s when the inner eyelid sticks to the cornea due to scar tissue preventing the eye from moving.

He’s such a good kitty that he fell asleep on his back in my lap while I was working on it. Guess he thinks the soft gauze is a tongue with the warm water I use.

 :crossed_fingers:  :smiley_cat:

Update!

No Crust this morning, more color, I can see a pupil for the first time and he’s able to move the eyeball.

Looks like the adhesion broke loose. We could be days away from a perfect kitty who is also a freaking maniac… LOL

Next time he sits still, I’ll take a picture and post it. Might be awhile. :smiley_cat:

This freaking lunatic was playing like a maniac for 3+ hours straight. Finally passed out in my daughters arms. Note - no more swelling in either eye. Also note that full kitten belly… LOL
