I agree. We have been rescuing kitties since the late 90’s. He’s #7. Hopefully will be Charlie’s sisters new best friend.
Can’t introduce them for about 5 weeks. Need to have this guy tested for Feline Aids / Leukemia.
Need to clear his eyes / upper respiratory infection too. Been there and done this once before with the eyes + with a baby. They usually respond quickly. He’s eating and drinking so that’s a major win. Did give him bottled kitty formula yesterday.
He’s so friendly which is usually the case with gingers. Slept on my daughters lap for 3 hours earlier.
Peed in the bathtub last night but used his litter box today! Yay!
He’s living in my in-laws place for now since they aren’t here.
FIL is doing well upstate.
MAYBE WE CAN CALL HIM 7!!! Has a Seinfeld vibe too. My daughter was born on Festivus.
I’ve been watching a cat rescue livestream for over five years. Most are feral cats and the females are often pregnant. The rescue allows the mom to have her last litter in a safe environment and the kittens are closely monitored until they are old enough to be adopted. All kittens and cats are spayed or neutered before moving on. Some ferals decide humans aren’t so bad after all and choose the life of a house cat.
We have our own situation with wild animals here in Bucks County PA, this guy and his brother are enjoying their time in our neighborhoods! He’s hanging out in a tree in Upper Makefield.
Looks like rubbings on that tree on the left! Though it could just be the sunlight.
Memories, I remember in Long Lake, New York as a little boy, my dad taking us to the dump on Friday and Saturday night. We would all sit up on the hill overlooking the pit with high power spotlights to see the “real” bears.
Funny thing, he always had a weapon in the rack behind us in the pickup truck. Though they were all just Black Bears. A very long time ago.
In Alaska when we fly you are required to carry a weapon. So different depending on where you are in this great country.
My ginger boy is a big honker, almost 20 lbs. This photo was a few years ago. He’s now 15 years old and can no longer climb the fence. He waddles around the house and sleeps about 23 1/2 hours a day.
.
My little guy is purring like a little motorboat today and playing like a nut job.
His good eye is pretty much perfect. We ARE NOT making good progress on the other. Hopefully that turns around soon otherwise it’s back to the vet.
His upper respiratory infection isn’t great either. Sneezing a little blood now and then which freaked us out but Dr. Google says that’s normal for his condition. Need to remind myself that this is only day 3 of intensive care from us.
He’s gaining weight, eating / drinking plenty. Should pull through.
We’ve brought back far worse kitties from the brink in the past but every case is different and cats are REALLY good at hiding pain / discomfort.
Update… I’m a nervous nelly - Like you can’t tell… LOL
He’s going to be seen today by our regular vet in an hour. Just want to make sure we are doing everything we can.
The vet he was at last week (the previous owner who caught him), basically told me to jump in a lake when I wanted 10 mins of their time to check him again so called my place and they said bring him right in.
This sounds like our relationship with our vet. The practice is great, but we only see Dr C. If she’s booked up, we will wait, but the staff know if it’s urgent, they ask her and if she agrees, she has ALWAYS made time.
Yup… It helps that my sister in law’s sister works there as a vet… HAHA. She’s gone for the day but I certainly dropped her name when I called. Leaving now… It’s pretty close to us thankfully. He was a real loud mouth when I first brought him home in the car but this time he is going in my smooth riding 96 Impala SS, not my 6-speed STi…
K, back… Glad I went. He does have an ulcer in the bad eye and he may have a bit of a tummy issue so now he’s on…
Antibiotic Ointment for both his eyes.
Anti-Viral to try and help this all get better faster and important if he has Calici Virus stacked with the normal herpes all strays are born with.
Staying on the oral antibiotics he has been on
Basically Pepto for his tummy for a few days
Lysine powder which we already have around here for our other feline friend.
Prognosis is good for a complete heal. He’s going for a follow up in a week.
Paws crossed that he recovers quickly. He’s got an owner that’s up pretty much 24/7 to keep him on a very tight and regimented med / care schedule.
They wanted me to cone him but the smallest cone they have is almost the size of him so we won’t be doing that. I haven’t seen him rub either eye once and there’s no evidence on his arms that he is rubbing.
He’s got enough problems. Losing his mobility and not being able to eat when he wants to eat isn’t going to be one of them.
He gained almost half a pound since Friday.
My sister in laws sister is our vet and she lives around the corner so she can make a house call if necessary. She wasn’t working at the time today but she has his follow up.
