Looks like a ‘Dogtamer’ to me… :smile_cat:

He already has “the look” down. “What? I didn’t do it! How could you think that?”

It’s been a along time since I’ve had a kitten. Most of the cats that I adopted (or who adopted me) have been adults or senior cats. I’ve forgotten how curious kittens are.

This evening I was washing something at the kitchen sink and “Bud” jumped straight up and held on to the edge of the sink. He wanted to see what I was doing. And then, I had just heated up something in the microwave and had the door open. He jumped right into the microwave! “No, no, kitty! Not the microwave!”

< sigh>

It will be a learning experience for me and Buzzy too.

Our last dog came from a shelter. His first name was Buddy, his second name was “Problem Dog” the family changed his name to Max, short for Maxwell.

He continued his life in the honor of his assigned name “Problem Dog” though he did bring us great joy and all that crossed his path loved him.

Ollie is 16 months old at this point and he’s still jumping in the grocery bags when we get home with them - empty or not…

Just be careful with bags with handles; we had a cat get his head through the handle and couldn’t get back out; seriously freaked out. Thankfully he was not injured (sadly, can’t say the same for me).
We don’t leave any bags with handles around the cats.

We always put the bags away in the closet. He’s never unattended with anything dangerous because we know he’s an idiot.

After considering a variety of names I have finally named my kitten. His name is Jinks. Those of a certain age may remember the cartoon Pixie and Dixie with Mr. Jinks.

Several names were considered, some in honor of wonderful cats who have passed on. Other names followed a naming theme from my previous cats and dogs. The kitten’s final name went through an evolution of several names before arriving at the final one.

Jinks is his last name, his first name is Hiram. So his complete name is Hiram Jinks or Hi Jinks. (What? What’s that I hear? Is that a collective groaning from the members of SAS?) :person_facepalming:

Wow. I’m no spring chicken, and with a sister 11 years older than I, I was exposed to a lot of stuff most kids my age never saw, but I’ve never heard of this one!

No groans from me - my elders long-ago convinced me that “lesser” creatures kept and tended domestically (pets, livestock, what have you) would seem to have a marked tendency to respond better to human desire(s) if what one calls them is multisyllabic (at least, before they become accustomed to another appellation early in their life).

I do like HiJinks as the kitten’s name, but he still looks like a ‘Dogtamer’ to me…

Sorry but he is definitely not a dogtamer.

One of the names that I considered for him was based my dogs’ names. They were named after spices and were lovingly called “The Spice Dogs.” I thought about continuing the spice/herb/seasonings theme but moved away from it.

Little Jinks wants mentoring from the older cats. He watches them and follows them around looking for hints on how to be a cat. Tonight he followed the neighbor’s huge tabby into the kitchen. It was the cutest thing was watching this 4-lb. tabby follow a 20-lb. tabby, like a child following his dad.

I disagree. NOT a “Dogtamer”. And I suspect I’m the most qualified here to make that call…

The house hound likes to cuddle. He had his south end towards me last night on the couch and man was he making gas!

I was an adult, I resisted every fiber in my body that told me to run up to the cart and give scratches to the corgi.

It was probably a good idea to put the Corgi in a cart. With those short legs, it would take him/her longer to get anywhere.

I would have wanted to pet the little doggie too.

It’s only been a few days but they are getting along well.

Ollie needs a friend!

Yes, he does. I’ve had Buzzy for almost two years and he has always enjoyed being around other cats. However, the cats around my house were a senior cat whose health was failing and a neighbor cat who is very independent and only shows up occasionally. Buzzy needed a friend closer to his age.

When little Jinks entered our home, it was the first time that I ever saw Buzzy actually play with another cat. It made me so happy to see that. They have also been having wrestling matches like kittens do. They are both having so much fun. :smiley_cat: :smile_cat:
