Fun with Wild Animals

Ollie does this… It’s annoying but his other redeeming qualities make up for it.

Ollie uses his teeth, along with his nails…

As a kid, we always had cats, and they all were the love of the household.

Boots, Whiskers, Bingo, and Cali (a calico cat), etc, etc.

I also grew up with so many major scratches, today the authorities would probably institutionalized me, thinking I was doing some type of self harm.

Today, my wife will not let us have, as she was also scratched while a kid, and instead became a massive dog lover (and cat hater). Yes I can still get a cat, but I need a divorce first.

Sometimes it is tempting to think about … :smile_cat:

I am almost sure that all of you who have grown up and love cats, feel that you have a special “cat whisperer” type ability as I do, as I have found that most cats I come across, tend to gravitate towards me (and far from others).

Is it no fear? or those secret spots we scratch, a soft touch, or maybe just that we are better able to sense their mood?

What is it that makes you a “cat whisperer”?

The Inaba Churu in my hand.
Honestly haven’t met a cat that won’t go crazy for it

I grew up with no pets, liked cats and dogs. After dating for a little while, we adopted a “kid” (doggo). And so on. I can walk into peoples houses and both cats and dogs seek me out for play, scratches and cuddles, and I am quite happy with that

I’ve heard it’s an over-stimulation threshold that triggers these attacks.

A cat bite story, & warning. One of my former cats, Wilson, got spooked and bit my inner forearm drawing blood. A fluke, the only time he ever bit me. About 12 hours later my arm was swelling and had long red streaks to my wrist and up to the bicep area. Urgent care gave me an antibiotic injection and 7 days of pills. They told me if it maintained or got worse not to go back there but to immediately go to the ER for IV antibiotics. Fortunately it improved.

Yup, always a concern what happened to you with the bacteria that can be in an animal’s mouth, even a healthy domesticated one…

My other concern (after watching too much “Mystery Diagnosis”) on the discovery channel is cleaning my aquarium with any open cuts, scrapes, etc…

Kid on that show lost part of her hand due to an infection that flared up after she put her hand in her fish tank with a small scrape on her hand.

The world is a dangerous place.

Our son was working as a hibachi chef and ended up in the hospital for 7 days with an IV drip for antibiotics. He was handling shrimp and had a hang nail. Within a couple of days, an infection caused by the shrimp went up his arm to the elbow. Had a temp of 104 in addition to his arm swelling up from the elbow down to the hand and turning bright red.

After that, he wore gloves when handling shrimp.

I think that is a huge part of it. Nisha only recently learned that when a cat pushes into you while your petting them (with their head, or ear, or back), it’s because they want to you pet them there, and with more pressure and vigor than most people thing (usually). She thought that they were pushing her away.

Also, I know to NEVER let a kitten play with your hand like a toy. Possibly the biggest mistake that many cat owners make.

I had a calico that I rescued from a lake (she had also been shot with a BB gun, and run over), that I had to give to my dad when my other cat got FIV.
She liked to play rough, and would let you pet her vigorously as long as you would, all the while purring up a storm; but when you stopped, WATCH OUT!

Dad started wearing leather work gloves to give her good attention that she begged for.

Wow!

She learned to be rough!

It was really lucky; I rarely just went outside at night, but did that night. Heard the mewing; took me 20-30 minutes to track it down (about 50 yards away on the other side of the lake). After my father passed away, she ended up with my sister-in-law, and lived to be somewhere past 19 years old. And one of the sweetest girls you ever saw.

sounds to me, that kitten cashed in all 9 lives that night.

Amazing - 19 years. !!

We live in an area where the last 3 dogs that we have had were abandoned out here in the country.

If we knew where these people lived, we would catch a skunk and drop it off in their area.

All my puppers have been rescues, one, we were his third home. Best life lived here.

House hound had an upset stomach last night, and when that happens he becomes a cow. He will eat any grass or plant he can find to “Puke out the evil.” And boy did he.

Back to normal today.

My new strategy!

Got windy, snuggles weather
