Fun with Wild Animals

My wife got headhunted out of our company a few years ago. They have a falcon nest on the top floor. She works in the building on the first floor. Live streamed all year, they often bring treats for the young ones once they are hatched.

We have some visitors in our fire pit

7 and I have seen mom in the last few days, all eyes are open and they are all alert! The house hound is CLUELESS and hasn’t sniffed them yet. He has seen mom one night running out of the yard. He will now be supervised but I don’t think he would do anything.

And just like that, they are gone.

Yesterday we only counted 4 with no signs of a struggle. This morning none. They have moved onto the rest of the grass, and that means I’m gonna have to keep an eye out from on top of the tractor when mowing.

I was also told that our house hound isnt broken (I mean he is, he is a failed hunting dog and thats why we got him), but that when they are that young they dont have a sent yet, or at least one that he would be able to smell.

This box is from a recent clean-out.

Underneath the paper is a cast-iron griddle.

He’s been there for over 7 hours and counting, including 3 times I fed Magic and he kept sleeping:

We have a few windows that have bird collision problems. We have bird decals to reduce the strikes. Usually the only birds that regularly strike them are Crossbills and Varied Thrush. Yesterday a Red Tail hit with a small bird in it’s talons, dropped to the deck stunned, but shortly took off with prey in tow. First time I’ve had a BIG bird strike and it was LOUD!

A robin built a nest on top of the downspout on the drainpipe. Not the best place for a nest in my opinion but she thought it was. I would love to get a photo of mama robin sitting on the nest but she flies away whenever I open the back door.

Pumpkin looks so cozy, but is he still alive after missing so many feedings?

Oh Eddie… Why are you so dumb…?

Aaaand now you have a bonus reason to check that there’s nothing but clothes in those!

I have one of mine busy ignoring several cat beds and a human bed in the room with me and sleeping on my clothes and/or a completely uncomfortable piece of furniture not intended for cats to be on. I’m tempted to put a cat tree there, but then I worry about a ā€œI have the high groundā€ attack formation situation.

Dumb human, what did YOU think this machine was for?? Just let me know if you have any questions about other places and their proper usage.

Every year we have sparrows that nest in a gutter at the store. When the babies hatch out the blue jays and crows eat them. The crows are too big to reach in, so the blue jays do that. And the crows catch any they drop.

Wish those sparrows would wise up.

Nah.. He is sending a very clear message.
ā€œGet me a cat wheel now or I’ll get into anything that resembles one.ā€
Unfortunately his dumb human didn’t get the cue… :face_exhaling:

I wonder if my boys would use one of those cat wheels…???

They take up too much space and would be a big waste of $ if they didn’t use it.

Eddie could use it. Getting a little chub. Not easy with 2 cats, with very different eating habits. I have to hide Ollie’s wet food and bring it out from time to time for him to graze on it, otherwise Eddie would gobble it all up instantly.

I have a sheer rock wall (cliff) above a pond with 30ft waterfall feature. Top of the wall is thorny bramble that white crown sparrows love to build protective nests low to the ground. The babies leave the nest and sometimes fall straight down in the pond so I’m constantly looking at the pond to rescue the inexperienced fliers. :sad_but_relieved_face:

Or maybe he’s been seeing those litter robot ads, and it’s a different kind of threat.
