SAVED BY THE CAT:
“That roll was going to attack you in your sleep. But I killed it for you.”
The boys are doing well. Eddie is all grown up. Ollie just turned 3 on April Fools Day. Eddie will be 1 at the end of May.
We’ve got the Ollie situation figured out with his aggression… It’s 2-part based:
Part 1 - He’s overprotective of Eddie. If he thinks we are doing something to Eddie, he gets mad. Example would be if they are playing a little too aggressive and we quickly grab him to put him in a room for a time-out with a member of the family.
Part 2 - We have a lot of strays around here and they spray everything. If I take the trash can out and it accidentally touches my pants, all hell breaks out when I come back inside.
It’s like a game of “Operation” when I take the trash cans out now. LOL
It’s been peaceful around here for awhile, now that we finally figured these 2 things out. Ollie is a real weirdo cat…
I almost missed the second cat in the picture. ![]()
Ollie’s job of training you has certainly been complex.
Ya… It was a real nightmare from 12-25 until a few weeks ago, when we finally put all the pieces together. He’s a very very smart cat, yet he attacks the hand that feeds him, so maybe not.
He actually understands sentences:
“You want to go up stairs”? - he runs to the cat door if it’s closed and locked (sometimes Eddie spends his nights upstairs with my MIL)
“You want to eat”? - Runs to the food dish.
Knows his name / comes when you call him. He even knows that Eddie is named “Eddie”
“Where’s Eddie”? - If he’s hanging in my son’s room, and he knows he’s in there with the door closed - he goes to that door.
It’s pretty incredible.
Did you get a new fish? I see the tank in the background.
That’s a whole nother nightmare. That’s a 55 gallon aquarium. I’ve been doing fish for 30 years. Tank is cloudy and I can’t figure it out. Used to be crystal clear. Doing everything right. Even tinted our giant bay window recently, thinking maybe the sun was causing the bacteria bloom.
I’ve tried every natural solution. Even have a UV Sterilization system in the tank now and that’s not working either.
It’s literally driving me insane. Used to be beautiful. It’s an aesthetic issue only. It’s not bad for the fish, just bothering our eyes…
“Curse You Aqua Scum” !
Have you checked hardness (GH/DH)? My only other guess is that it’s minerals in the water column or something.
Everything is within normal range on the test strips.
It’s NYC water, so pretty mineral free.
I’m at a loss…
NASA said pspsps to a kitty on Twitter and broke the internet.
This is what the internet is for.
Just wanted to quote this for future use as it could come in handy.

One of these was eating a sparrow on my neighbors lawn when I was putting my Christmas decorations up in late Nov. Felt bad for the sparrow but survival of the fittest they say…
We have a few hawks, a Blue Heron rookery, and as of last week we think a Bald Eagle has taken up residence in our town. Also the creek across the street was gobbling this morning, lol
A couple weeks ago I noticed a hawk in my backyard flying off with a chipmunk in its talons.
Lovely pics, thanks for sharing.
I used to drive past fields where “my” hawks (possibly the same one, but broadly just any animal of the same appearance at a driving pace in roughly the same area) would be resting on the power lines, looking for motion to swoop down for a meal. Felt good to drive past them regularly. The rest of the family would remark on them if they saw them. ![]()
About 30 years ago, I saw a hawk (assume it was a red tail) that was trying to take off with a crow trapped upside down in its talons. For every flap of the hawk’s wings to gain altitude, the crow would flap against it, dragging the hawk back down some. The hawk was gaining altitude, but not quickly and with great effort. It was in an industrial park, so the hawk had to clear chain link fences and buildings, which looked to be quite difficult. The crow was still flapping when I drove out of sight of the two.
That reminds me of a crow/falcon story from my brother. For some time he worked in the downtown area of Portland, Oregon.
Amidst the hgh rise buildings there is a fair amunt of falcon acitivity. Crows regularly harass them. The falcons, though presumably annoyed, ignore them. It seems there is a no-touch rule that is understood and followed by all.
But one crow trespassed against the rule. He touched.
The falcon vanished. When next seen (moments later) that falcon was stooping on that particular crow which then disappeared in a cloud of black feathers.
