Getting started with Walmart

Sounds like it’s not mapped or is not reading the existing templates.
Walmart is glitchy. Maybe it needs a se one to load.
If not live by Monday I’d open a case with them to confirm if the templates and the products are linked

You can set the inventory manually on the items page.
But the templates have to be linked either by the file upload or (if I remember correctly) by adding the gtins on the shipping template page.

Actually, it turned out to be user error. Or, more precisely, ‘user doesn’t understand how Walmart works yet’.

I had created a second ‘warehouse’ (not really on purpose) and had assigned my SKU’s there via the file uploads. But on the main items page, I had added inventory quantities (manually) to the other warehouse.

But the templates have to be linked either by the file upload

No, they don’t, and boy was I happy to discover this! If you scroll over to the right (who would think to do this, right? Not me…), you’ll find there’s a template/warehouse selection box.

:astonished:

If you hover over the Default shipping link, an Edit box pops up and if you click it, you can change warehouses/shipping templates right there.

You think… It took 5 weeks to list 4 products for us and that was with the incubators help…

He had to escalate multiple cases to get that done too. I think I can do it on my own now. Just waiting to see how we do with Bazaarvoice and what kind of lift that brings before we add to the assortment.

The upload template was a little complex for me (worse than Amazon’s) and the issue was I could never get their image hosting site to work right or Imgur either which they recommended. Links never worked so the only way for me to do it was manually.

The good news is unlike Amazon, all the attributes of existing listings can be seen so I can just copy what finally worked to set up more if things work out the way they are now.

So far, so (reasonably) good for me. All my glitches seem to have been self-imposed.

I feel like one of those eBay sellers coming to Amazon and expecting things to work the same. But the more I learn, the more I like. For small sellers, who prefer to do things manually, it seems to work fairly well. But I am getting a little frustrated with the time it takes for pages to load, or things to update.

And one thing I haven’t figured out yet, what’s with the exterior product identifier thing? It’s like they want you to give them the ASIN of your item being sold on Amazon. ?? Why?

I’ve listed against a couple existing, older, listings that seem linked to an Amazon ASIN. Every time I run into one, it gives me an error until I delete the Amazon ASIN.

Does anyone know why Walmart cares what the Amazon ASIN for an item is?

You people want to hear something crazy!!!

This is nuts…

So when I set up our listings on Walmart I had another screen open and I was just copying and pasting from Amazon to Walmart.

Then, I looked at the product benefits section of the Walmart listings and the word Insomnia was in there which instantaneously made me crap my pants because all our listings got yanked on Amazon for that “disease” claim last year. Oneida saved my butt by teaching me how to use the flat files to fix things… Thank you Oneida

Bottom line is even though the word was removed, it must have been in the background and when I copied that attribute from Amazon it came back intact on Walmart even though it wasn’t visible on Amazon.

Things you think are deleted or changed really aren’t on Amazon. They are there, just can’t see them…

Walmart Incubation guy told me he’s seen that happen before. So any smart tech guys / gals here know how that’s even possible??? I saw it with my own 2 eyes and I had my glasses on.

Pretty sure it’s so that they can verify your price is comparable. They hope you’ll do the work for them. Not all of my stuff is linked, but they know that I’m lower on WM than AMZ for some items.

Pretty sure it’s so that they can verify your price is comparable.

It seems like a bizarre thing to ask. Please give us this piece of data so we can use it against you…

As a shopper there, I’ve noticed that Walmart doesn’t seem to object to ridiculously sky high prices. I frequently see third parties offering stuff at 4 - 10 x what it should cost. :woman_shrugging:

It’s not required. We didn’t enter that data but they crawled and found it and even automatically entered the ASIN in so you might as well do it bc its going to happen.

Hmm, that’s interesting.

Nope, extra work for me. If they want it, they can go find it. Oddly though, as I mentioned, on items where the UPC matched with an existing listing on Walmart and was already entered, the Amazon ASIN part threw an error. I had to delete it to be able to add my listing. Not sure why?

Good point.

How do I find (find, not set) my fulfillment lag time?

I see the instructions for changing it via bulk upload, but can’t know if I need to change it without knowing what it’s currently set at.

Where can I view that? Anybody know?

Question #2 today…

Can anyone tell me why I get this error when trying to add my offer on Walmart?

Here’s the listing process I’m using…

  • Enter the product’s UPC in the ‘set up by match’ box.
  • Walmart finds a match
(Not sure if this is relevant, but they show there’s one offer, but when I view the page, it says out of stock. I’ve seen this repeatedly.)
  • I click to Add Mine, the new tab opens, and I enter my SKU and Price.
  • When I click to ‘submit’, I get an error message. At first it was a different error, the screen grab above is from attempt # 2.

The way to clear the error is to open the ‘Optional’ attributes (data shown is the correct product ASIN on Amazon) and delete the ASIN.

I don’t quite understand what’s going on.

Question # 3 today…

Does Walmart handle all sales taxes, the same as other marketplaces?

Yes

Weird. Not sure. Why are you entering anything there?

I assume you’re asking about the Amazon ASIN? I’m not entering anything there. It’s something that’s already there that I have nothing to do with, but it keeps throwing an error for me. Kind of annoying, because I have to manually delete it every single time. Not sure if I should be doing that or not, but it’s the only way to get the error to go away so I can list my product.

It should be fine. I had to do some weird things which were directed by the Walmart Incubator guy to make things go through.

If it works, just keep doing it.

Question for @TallyTony, or anyone else who might know.

Is it necessary to provide an image link when adding items via upload files?

I decided to try to do it this way with Walmart (much easier than on Amazon, IMO), but after doing all the work to add a dozen listings to the template, the file failed because I’d left out the image url’s.

Well, no ■■■■ Sherlock, lol. I save the images locally to my computer and then upload them from there - not from links. I hoped to create the listings with the template, then go back and manually upload the images. But it appears I wasted all my time creating the template file because it wouldn’t allow me to leave out the links. Will it work if I just delete that column from the spreadsheet, I wonder?

I ended up abandoning all my work and creating the listings manually instead, which was actually pretty easy, now that I know more about what I’m doing. I’m making progress… :+1:
