And yet UPS still drops packages off at our post office to be delivered. Those packages are on the rural USPS route … in town, UPS is delivered by UPS.
We had a recycled ink cartridge that had a UPS label. We didn’t want to drive 30 miles to drop it off at a UPS location. Our post office had no problem with us dropping it off and gave it to UPS the next time they came.
Our post office is a little rural office (that our little town supports and wants to keep). Everybody here tries to help each other. We often help by fixing little electrical issues for them at no cost (building is old).
We know the attitude is different in small rural towns. When we lived in the LA area, the post office and DMV were the two places we avoided as much as possible. Neither had employees that would do anything extra … everything was “not my job” even if it was a function of the USPS or DMV.
However, FedEx does not deliver anything to our post office. They have completely cut ties.

Does the address come up as an address in the USPS system? (usps.com)
We have seen an uptick in addresses that do not have zip-four. When we see this, we always check on usps.com to validate the address. Recently, we have seen several that do not have a zip-four (not found on usps.com). When we see this happen, we google the address to see if it exists. Most of the time it does and we just purchase a usps label from another vendor (and accept the risk and loss of the protections).
This can also happen when Amazon determines an estimated delivery time that doesn’t align with your handle time settings which basically voids your shipping preferences.

Their ‘estimates’ are nearly as good as the Government estimating the deficit. This is for an order received this morning. I could drive it there in less than 10 hours and it will go out Tuesday (to protect myself from the “2” gap) by Ground Advantage.

I had the exact same experience one week later but going Virginia to Kansas. I designed a product to fit perfectly into a USPS Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box as it was always the cheapest option for anything more than one state away. Amazon had it listed as a one week delivery (7/14 ship, 7/21 delivery) even though USPS says 2-3 days. The approved shipping methods were all twice as much.

No sooner do I try to defend USPS than they take a week (or more, supposed to be delivered today) to get a flat rate package from Virginia to Tennessee. That’ll teach me.

USPS has been very erratic for last three months or so.

Got you beat; I had one package that took 10 days to get delivered to a PO Box in South Hackensack, NJ
That’s the same post office that my carrier drops off at after doing the day’s rounds…
