If we want to offer the same product with and without free shipping, can we just list them as 2 different ASINs?

What the title says. I would like to offer 2 versions: one with and one without free shipping. I can’t have two FNSKUs on the same listing (Handmade, I don’t think that’s an option).

We have seen items have a customized option of shipping.

Free Shipping = $0.00
Expedited Shipping = $9.95

Not sure if you can set up customized options, but that may be a way to do it.

In customized options, any option can have an additional price. Also, doing it this way means the shipping is part of the price of the item just as if it was free shipping (shipping included) so you would have to treat the order the same as you would free shipping orders.

I do have free shipping and expedited shipping for each listing right now, just like you show.

However, I want an option to have buyer pay for regular shipping and then extra for expedited shipping. I think it would be easier if it was a separate listing - one listing with free regular shipping, and one listing with buyer pay shipping - but I don’t know if that is allowed.

But you have it set up in the shipping templates like that correct?

What we are suggesting is to use customization templates to create the shipping option. In doing so, you could also set up a separate option of something like initials on the homemade item or any other option on the item … could be color, could be size, etc. Any option in the customization template can have an additional cost.

Shipping could have 4 options
Free
Standard
Expedited
Express
… and each of these options you would set the price which would become part of the items total price … not item total plus shipping cost (like when shipping is from shipping template).

Look at this item on Amazon … click on the Customize Now button.
Shipping could be set up like the packaging option.

I see, but as a shopper, I personally avoid such listings unless I actually want customization. I just want it to show the ultra-low price sans shipping on the results page when they search.

Doing as two offers on the same ASIN with the shipping as being the difference between the two offers would probably be seen as a listing duplication or manipulation type violation … a slippery slope we wouldn’t go down.

What do the customers see now on your listing in the search result page?

They see the price with free shipping. I want one product with free shipping and one product with buyer pay shipping. I tried to make two conditions on the same listing, but they won’t allow it.

We have never seen it that way and this way doesn’t work for you right?

You are trying to have one like this …

And one something like this …

Which would be two different listings for the same ASIN from you … This would be against listing rules and most likely seen as listing manipulation.

Not a path to follow.

Thanks. I just think some people prefer to see the price without shipping and some people like to see it with shipping. Wish there was a way to do this.

I wish that were the case but sadly it’s not. I’m not telling you not to try it - you actually should. When we tested this, in 16 months no one bought the item with shipping separate even though the price was lower (without the shipping). I don’t know how you would do it on Amazon.

I haven’t set any up in quite a while but here is what USED to work but it may no longer be available.

I just went in and used the ‘add a new condition’ tab and I got two listings on the same ASIN.

The first was my (at the time) standard one with a shipping cost. Then the new one had ‘free shipping’ but a higher price.

I went through and did that for a couple hundred ASINs because there are buyers that refuse to even see items that have a shipping charge. By adding the ‘free shipping’ I got exposure to the sheep that Amazon has trained.

Because I added more than my costs to the ‘free’ ones I actually made more doing those.

On Amazon there really is a sucker born every minute…

I just found where they have hidden the “add another condition” tab!

Here are the choices for condition …

Not sure any Used condition would work with a Handmade item (definitely wouldn’t work for a Customized item).

Thank you. I tried to add a condition, but it didn’t work.

This concept sets off “bad marketing” alarms with me.

You risk confusing the dimwits who you have identified as being potential customers for your item. Choose the way to price shipping which will apply to the bulk of the buyers for your item, and use it exclusively.

You are creating a situation in which the buyer has a choice to make and be unhappy with, not a benefit to your product, sales, or post-sales demands for customer service.

I’m not sure why they would be unhappy, as they would be choosing what they want. Some shop by free shipping; some shop by comparing the price without shipping. I want to be able to appeal to both sets of buyers.

At any rate, this is a moot point if I’m unable to create those conditions.

Thank you for sharing your results. As a buyer, I prefer free shipping, even if it is higher. When shipping is not included, I feel nickeled and dimed, and I really don’t have the time to go through each item and price them all out by clicking on the listing or adding them to my cart to see how much it is with shipping. The savings in time is worth the chance that it might cost just a little more.

The more choices a buyer has to make before ordering from your page, the greater the chance of indecision, as well as the chance of remorse over the decision.

K I S S is a universal truth in marketing.

Your argument is akin to a seller who does not combine shipping and refund excess shipping charges arguing the buyer accepted the higher cost and being surprised by the buyer’s bad feelings.

Well, they would be on separate pages was what I was hoping. I’ve seen other listings like this and have never been confused, but if I can’t do that then it’s a moot point.

All listings for the same ASIN are on the same page. Each catalog page has a buy box with the featured offer and a link for additional offers. I am confused by what you expected in terms of separate pages.

Clearly any solution which had two different ASINs differing only by the price and shipping method would be a violation of policy. But there would be two separate pages.

I keep saying that because we can’t do it, it is a moot point. I’m not sure why you are arguing with that.
