hoping anyone left behind doesn’t think that ID is me. So very close.
Remembering a while back, a seasoned seller posted that they could see the sellers’ accounts from “the back end” (guessing they had some position within Amazon) - whether or not that was true it was highly inappropriate to openly make that statement. I watched that thread for quite a while and not ONE moderator jumped on that. A good friend who followed the forum but never posted due to fear of some sort of retaliation made comment to me “what are moderators for if they are allowing amazon employees to make comments like that to other sellers” There was and is no answer. Interesting now how a lot of stuff “inflames” them yet that comment went without remark.
Possibly another reason for flushing out the old forum, Seems it’s all about control.
I guess… But tragically pathetic. Amazon mods must have taken Milton too literally when he wrote, “Better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven”
It was my agreement with others that Princess’ litigation was the catalyst for the NSFE. If ever there was someone who screamed “look at me, I’m a raging narcisist” it’s her.
A thought - knowing that several frequent posters on the old forum are Amazon employees and then having them boast “we can all see and are looking at the back of your accounts” is a pretty good reason for Amazon to act quickly. Since those “posters” can see a posters’ store name, then everyone else should also have that right and benefit.
It’s obvious to most who those people are but not all. So knowing you have folks giving advice that are then going into your account and reviewing your inner workings could also cause them some distress.
Ummmm…that was truly possible in the past. Not with the last version of the forum but the version before that.
About 6 months before the last version of the forum, I remember being let in on the secret. It was something like using Chrome and not Firefox and you could get the coding behind a conversation and that revealed more information about the person posting etc…
I kinda doubt this. Amazon is bigger then anyone, and one person can not change the forum the way it was changed. The NSFE was in the works for some time, rumors have it maybe prior to 2020.
A business friend of mine saw that post not more than a year ago and sent a screen shot of the post to me. He was always afraid of the forum suspecting that may have been an issue and he was correct. So yes not the NSFE but the forum we all abandoned to come here.
That alone is unsettling.
Yes, there was a leak in the RSS feed plugin 2 forum versions ago (NOT DISCOURSE)
You could not use the Chrome-code trick on the OSFE.
A frequent and controversial user posted about this pre-OSFE trick in the last days of the OSFE, trying to claim that it was still possible, but it was not.
Several knowledgeable and skilled folks hacked that thing six ways from Sunday to test it, and what that user posted was actually based on confusion about internal coding via Discourse and Amazon’s troubleshooting system.
What they claimed was that you could find the Merchant ID of a user in the code of their reply, but this was not true. There were MID-like codes embedded, but these were unique for each reply, not user, and assigned by Amazon for troubleshooting purposes.
Meanwhile, saw this on the NSFE:
It seems to me that the seller forums might have been restructured to prevent/reduce amplification of seller complaints.
I believe that different aspects of the NSFE had different goals:
- Use the ASF as a marketing tool (sell to Sellers!)
- Incorporate the NSFE into Seller Central (under Amazon’s full control)
- Segregate new Sellers to serve them the kool-aid without the interference of experienced Sellers (see #1)
- Build social trust/limit perceived liability (the doxxing)
- Limit Sellers’ ability to use the ASF to network, communicate (despite repeated claims that the opposite is true), and organize (re: above quote)
- Limit non-logged-in users’ (like media) ability to cite Seller comments or find Sellers to interview, and Sellers’ ability to build an influencer/provider following (re: “anonymized” handles)
As our old friend Dogtamer would say, “Nail meet Hammer.”
anyone been able to send an invite to Dogtamer? I so miss his posts!!!
Me too!
I reached out to him twice before the axe came down on the old forum and gave him my email address. He responded with a . Twice. I believe Papy, Tony Pepper VTR Medic and ASV tried to reach out to him too. He did say he backs everything up so more than likely he has everyone’s email address and contact information and if he’s reading along on the NSFE with all the hints thrown around there he would know where to find us old timers.
Yes we sure do miss him. Hope he reconsiders and joins us soon.
I can respect his decision to take some time away. But I do hope he decides to come find us soon.
maybe he was just a chat bot…permanently attached to Amazon and destined to die with the old forum…
His responses were too specific and detailed. One Saturday evening the forum got into a kind of “chat” and there were a few of us, PepperThineAngus being one of them, and the conversation was very OT but clearly “Dogtamer” was not a bot.
I’m hoping he’s just found some peaceful space to be in and away from the Amazon madness for a while. He is missed by many of us.
I was just kidding Amazon would never waste the money and put a knowledgeable chat bot in the forums. For one thing, if Amazon had created him, his posts would be full of links. Read this, read that, bla bla.
For another, if they had thought about doing that, they would have taken the Beta version into full active mode and watched it crash a few months…
