Oh Boy - Captain Morgan

Just the tips.

Good point on orange juice being acidic.

Grocery store doesn’t have anything non-plastic but I did find this:

I thought there would be a move back to glass with all this save the planet stuff going on right now. It’s so much better for the planet and so much better for our bodies.

The problem is the heat involved (and the source of that heat) for recycling it.

It’s a no win situation, kind of like EV’s. The truth is out there.

For groceries it might make some sense, but for ecommerce in general glass is absolutely awful. It’s bigger, heavier, and worst of all, it breaks. And even if you’re talking about being eco friendly, glass products need to be wrapped in a bunch of plastic bubble wrap to survive the journey.

I hear you. I would like to have the choice though. I’m Pro-Choice when it comes to what my food / beverage is packaged in.

Well, depending on how much you’re willing to pay there’s always a choice. If you don’t want plastic contacting any of your food, that’s a tough and expensive choice (as shopping at any traditional grocery store is basically out), but it is possible if you shop at farmers markets and don’t buy any pre-prepared foods.

You could also hire a butler to do all your shopping and squeeze your oranges for you, lol.

Who needs a butler when you’ve got a better ½?

I’ll go away, now, because somehow she always knows when I’ve been a’ teasing - meaning I better rush to get my shinguards…

Well, I’m willing to buy a few bottles; but you’ll need to come here to taste them.

(to get back on topic, they’re all packed in glass; too difficult to ship)

BTW, I feel I should add, all discussion of glass vs. plastic aside, that new label is HORRIBLE. What were they thinking?

I’ll also mention that if you can find Four Square spiced rum, give it a shot (been years since I’ve had it; not sure if it’s still around or not. More real “spice” flavors than the Capt.)

Like I said, that label looks like a cheapo counterfeit. How do you go from that nice artwork to that crap?

20 years in grocery …
There were more cans dented than broken glass jars of mayo. When the mayo went from glass to plastic, the size went from 32oz to 30oz but the price stayed the same.
The move to plastic jars and bags was sold as a cost savings that didn’t really happen and we were saving the planet by saving the trees used to make paper bags.
Soda pop glass bottles were recycled by customers but the plastic ones were tossed in the trash even though the customers could get money for them too.
No glass jars were wrapped in bubble wrap. The boxes had cardboard sleeve inserts. The boxes and sleeves were recycled. Damage to plastic jars happened just like glass jars … some idiot dropped a box or someone on a pallet jack or forklift rammed into a pallet or over a case.

Glass is better to store food in … period … and doesn’t need replacing like plastic does.

Plastic is a disposable product that has to be replaced. It makes more money for the manufacturers and that is the real bottom line to it’s growth in the market place.

Especially when you consider the amount of marketing over the years to make us envision the old label. The new one simply does not conjure the same feeling of the guy at the party holding his leg in the air. Just lacks any class whatsoever.

At one place I worked, we had artwork for a wine label sourced on one of those freelance services (fiver? maybe). Most of the stuff was crap, but I would say that at least half of it was better than this one.

I think those savings really happened. The fact that they were never passed down the line to any of those directly affected doesn’t mean they weren’t real.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with them showing the pilot to NBC - " Nagasaki Broadcast Corporation " where they gift them oranges “because they are rare there”

“We called the sunshine carpet cleaners to clean up coffee stain left by Jerry Seinfield

LMAO - only funny to those that remember that episode.

Capt and Coke is the best. I’ve tried lots of different rums. It might not be a premium brand but it is delish.

Will report back when I crack open this plastic piece of crap if it tastes any different. It’s being immediately poured in the old glass bottle when that one is done.

The Capt is rolling over in his sea side grave

I’m a Malibu gal for coconut, Captain’s for spiced–both with Diet Coke (the only time I’ll drink diet soda).

And accidentally Bacardi 80 once in college.

My daughter is a Malibu girl. Sadly, she’s 18 but what are you gonna do.

I was doing far worse at her age.

Very proud of my full time college student, a year ahead of her peers with straight A’s, 2 jobs, and in the gym 6 days a week. She can do whatever she wants on the weekends.

IDK how she does it.

Guess the Captain’s ship started to sink. They moved back to glass…

Costco, was worth it. May be slightly more expensive.

They also sell handles of the Myer’s Jamaican Rum

However, if you want to spend a few dollars more at TotalWino…

Also, while we are on the subject here is my variation of Grog

  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • .5 oz. Passionfruit Syrup
  • 1 oz. dark rum
  • 3-4 oz. water (depending on personal taste)
  • ICE!

We call it Chumwater. Thank me later fellow pirates.
