1 oz. of dark rum? How’s that going to get you anywhere? Sounds like a girls’ drink. In high school.

Which is the last time I had a rum and coke.

My guess would be that this is not a change at the Captain, but rather a decision by your retailer or wholesaler. Other than very low and mid to high end brands, many are packaged in a variety of bottles (basically, cheapies are always plastic; anything that doesn’t have a distinctive bottle is probably available in both). Retailers often have the choice, and plastic is often cheaper, due to the lower shipping costs. But many customers do prefer glass, so often stores will pay the premium (and pass it along in many cases).

Sadly, I have a good relationship with my local liquor store because I am a marketplace seller.

He said it was a universal change and his distributor told him that it cost them bigtime, so they swapped it back to glass as it should be…

I kept my last glass bottle and would empty the plastic bottle into it on each repurchase… Gotta keep it classy. LOL

Packaging changes can make a big difference. When Chivas changed the packaging on the 1.75 18 year about 10 years ago, the sales drop at the store I worked at was big enough that it showed as a blip on Diageo’s worldwide reports; Colin Scot (the master blender for Chivas) even came to visit us to see what was up. (yes, that one store had that kind of volume. It was insane).

FIFY :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I’m not really a wine drinker (I like the likka, baby! and even that in borderline-temperance moderation), so if I do go for wine, you know it’s serious. But “rare” wine sounds…interesting

Also, it took me about 20 years to realize that I prefer whites, despite my assumption (based on grape soda and koolaid?) that I should obviously prefer reds. I actually only like dessert reds.

Wine Exploration should be an official post-college Adulting class.

The issue is that my tastes have changed since purchasing some of these wines, as well as how I drink it. I’m usually sitting on the sofa watching TV with the wife. We opened a bottle a couple of years ago, and while it was good, agreed that it was not a $200 experience; there are $20 bottles we likely would have enjoyed just as much if not more. And since that was almost the least valuable bottle in the cellar, I’m hoping to sell rather than drink them. (I’ll admit, I’d be interested in tasting the '86 Lafite, but would rather have the money that someone might pay for it).

One of the part time jobs I got years ago was at a new liquor store, before they were even open, stocking the shelves, etc. They had a rep from the mother ship store come to town to teach us about tastings, which we would do from time to time in store. I do not drink alcohol at all (tastes gross to me). So when she went around asking us our faves, I told her that (not the gross part). She took a long pause, while I thought I had just lost the job, then she said “You will have the cleanest palate of everyone here.”

Tastings WERE part of the job, so I did try (red wine is super gross), and decided if you made me choose with a weapon to my head, the sweet wine stuff (Moscato) would be it. Though that iced tea stuff is pretty good too.

My vice is Dr. Pepper. Party on!
