PLEASE HELP, Brazil added and Invalid Charge Method

This ■■■■ was added for me this week as well. I can say that once I listed my first book with Brazil unchecked, it was unchecked in the listing page by default for all subsequent listings. Thankfully someone in dev had a moment of rational thinking… that or it was quitting time before finalizing the code by making you uncheck it each time.

I have a INVALID charge card attached to Brazil and it is working for me. They bug me to update it but nope, not doing that.

@papy can you sometime when you have a chance tell us how to add tags. I know you have done it for me, yet I can not figure out how to add my own when I start a topic, or contribute to a thread.

As of last evening, the Visa I have had on my U.S.-only account for as long as I can remember (not expired and checked with bank to make sure it was working properly) was rejected for both the U.S. and Brazil. I also tried a Mastercard, also unexpired and in good standing, and it was rejected for both. My last hope was my Amazon Prime Visa card from Chase, and it was accepted for both. All three cards from major banks.
I am going to try later this week to switch my U.S. store back to the original card. I realize the problem may be that Visa or the banks were rejecting a charge from Brazil that may have appeared fraudulent, but my bank tells me the original card had no record of a declined transaction and that even if I was shopping on a foreign website, the charge would be accepted.
I will add that all three of these cards were already, and for a long time, registered on the buyer side of my account. The first two were rejected instantaneously, with no evidence, such as a spinning wheel or something, that Amazon was in the process of verifying. Of course, I had to replace the card separately for each marketplace.
So, my experience was that because there was no card on file for Brazil, it was locking me out of my U.S. account as well.
This Brazil slamming is all a load of bool sheet.

My introduction to Brazil, other than removing it years ago from our own websites due to fraud, happened after we got a card frozen. Amazon shut all accounts.

We had a fraud alert on it. I specifically, went in and added the replacement card, but did not add that to Brazil. I let the fraud reported card sit on Brazil.

They have not forced me to update it. I will not update it. This is a market I refuse to be in. We sold thousands in Brazil on our own website. We collected a fraction of that. Our customers begged us to come back, no, not now not never. How dare Amazon make our business decisions.

I agree. The whole thing is ridiculous. Why is Brazil so special? Methinks Amazon chose the lazy route and just decided to switch everyone over rather than do it right.

Many years ago, I did ship a few books to Brazil and most of them were never delivered. I remember a discussion on the old forums about how unreliable the Brazilian postal system was, and someone suggested drawing a cross on each parcel to Brazil because that typically indicated it was something for religious purposes.

Anyway, I have had Brazil blocked for a very long time. I do ship some items to some foreign countries with reliable postal service. I also used to ship to Mexico and had the same experience – most went undelivered – so blocked Mexico, too. Shipping to, sadly, the majority of foreign countries is just not worth the risk, IMHO, for FBM sellers.

There are likely two primary drivers behind Amazon’s push into Brazil:

  1. Brazil’s population is ranked (by most estimates) as the world’s 7th-largest, making for an attractive customer base in excess of 200 million.

  2. Brasília’s TPTB have a long history of providing infrastructure subsidies and/or tax breaks to foreign investment.

I had the same theory, as this issue we had (the same), was also with a Chase / Visa card.

I called chase and asked them if they saw anything when this happened to us. They said no attempted charges, nothing wrong with the card.

You and I are not the only Amazon sellers that this happened to. I don’t think it’s a visa thing because if you look at my post / link upthread, you’ll see that I added my partner’s card, which is also a Visa and the essentially the same account, just a different CC # that separates our expenses.

I was tempted to try and switch it back but as with all things Amazon, don’t try and fix what isn’t broken.

In the same boat – old platform account; never had the Unified account, and a few days ago saw something other than “1” for my “stores”

Ugh.

I only had a dire warning about deposit method. Put it on vacation and no warning now.

The bit about Brazil on the bottom of every add page has – so far – remained in the Off position after my first add with Brazil tacked on to my account.

Typical Amazon – trying to entice me by telling me nobody is offering this item in Brazil.

I’ve never seen anything from Amazon regarding the mandatory CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Fisicas) which – in theory – must be provided for every order.

ABE actually solves this type of problem for sellers – a tax code for EU orders; and other code for New Zealand, etc.

Amazon doesn’t give a rip.

I woke up this morning and discovered that Brazil had been added to my account. I immediately put it on vacation. All of my listings are domestic only. No international shipping. eBay and Biblio make it easy to ship internationally but not Amazon.

On a side note, this story appeared on the CNN web site. Starting in 2025, if you want to travel to Brazil, you must provide your bank statements as proof of income.

Want to visit Brazil? From next year, US travelers will need to share their bank statements first

By Julia Buckley, CNN

(CNN) 2024 is shaping up to be the year of travel reprieves.

Hot on the heels of the European Union postponing (again) its much-mooted ETIAS program, which will require visitors from most non-EU countries to obtain pre-travel clearance, Brazil has pushed back the start of its new visa system for travelers from the US, Canada and Australia.

However, if 2024 is the year of the reprieve, 2025 is when everything will hit home. And for travelers from those three countries heading to Brazil, it’ll hit home, hit their bank balances – and require them to share their bank statements, too.

ETIAS is slated to start in 2025 and Brazil has now confirmed a start date for its visa program.

From April 10, 2025, citizens from Australia, Canada and the US will need a visa to enter the country. On the plus side, those traveling for tourism or cruise travel can apply for an evisa online, rather than visiting a consulate.

The cost will be $80.90, but the visa will be valid for 10 years and across multiple entries. Stays are limited to 90 days per year. The visa was previously due to be introduced in 2024 – or, rather, reintroduced. Until 2019, US travelers to Brazil were required to get visas – with evisas introduced only a year before the system was abolished completely.

Applicants will also need to provide additional information, according to the Brazilian government’s website. A letter of intent should detail the dates and purpose of the trip, as well as confirmed details of where you’ll be staying. Proof of residence in the US, and return tickets to Brazil (or, if not, a signed return declaration), and proof of income will also be required.

…&etc,

Scary when you consider the corruption and kidnapping that goes on in some of these countries.

There will be those who buy access to the “proof of income” to increase their kidnapping profits.

This goes well with Amazon - perfect fit. No wonder they want everyone to have Brazil.

Corruption by sellers and kidnapping of listings

New development. I believe I am locked out of adding books due to needing deposit method.
But I cannot get to an English language page to add a deposit method. So I haven’t got a clue what to do on that page.

Opened a case. Haven’t opened a case for a few years now.

Sigh.

May have fixed it myself. Had a quick (and useless) reply on my case.

I tried approaching that same deposit method page, but on the U.S. side, not on the Brazil side – and noticed a link to “Assign” – I think that may have worked.

I’ll have to wait and see if I can list again.

Reporting back – I can list again

Boy, this forum is amazing!

Did you click on the “Assign” link on the Brazil side? I’m getting the same notification.

Here is what I’m seeing.

Yes – that is what I saw and clicked on. I did have to say yes I am really sure, and got an email that required me to follow link and again say yes I am sure.

Previously I had clicked on links from the page that showed me the warning.

Then when I tried to open a case it gave me steps (before opening the case) – the steps were useless and led me to the same non-English page.

So I decided to try a whole different approach.

I followed the link but I’m still getting the warning. I had to change my password.

It’s past my bedtime. I’ll deal with this in the morning.

Amazon sure doesn’t make anything easy.

I went out of town today and just got back. Last night I clicked on “Deny” instead of “Accept” for the Brazil banking method. Today I attempted to try the process again and “Accept” but things got weirder. This is what I received:

Any ideas? Speculation is accepted.
