Quick Notice about Michael's

Michaels Maker Place will be charging the professional fee of $110.00 in Jan 2025. Check your account to switch to the free account.

I’m closing my Michaels sellers account due to few sales and too much work for no profit. For now I’m on time away until I close out the accounting.

I will also be closing Etsy, Amazon and any other sales accounts I have. Too much for, too many hoops to jump thru. Etsy is on vacation mode I’ve been on Etsy since 2014, I’ll put Amazon on vacation mode after Jan 15, 2025. I might get sales for the I got money for Xmas crowd. I’ll close the account after I’m sure all the accounting is entered. I’ve been on Amazon since 2017.

I’ll keep my website which I’ve had since 2015 and have moved hosting sites a couple of times.

Did Michaels sent this information out in an email, like the Seller Saturday email?

The last MakerPlace Seller Saturday email I received was on 12/14. Was there any other ones on 12/21 or 12/28?

There is a MakerPlace notification about this fee change under the seller plan tab. It includes a comparison table showing the advantages of keeping the pro plan for $110 a year or $9.98 a month. If sellers do not choose a plan by January 31, they will be automatically put into the professional paid plan.

The paid plan will give sellers a chance to be featured, will allow them to hold numerous classes, and will allow sellers to buy shipping labels at a discount.

The free plan will not give any shipping label discount and limit the number of classes to two per month.

There are a couple of other details but these were the ones that I thought were important.

Thanks for the heads up, odd that we had no, lets call it 0 notice of this.

I would not mind the $110 charge, if we in fact had more than $0.00 in sales on Michael’s. Likely our fault, I know we have products, or could develop products that work. Even so, we have not, and have not had one single sale.

This in your second paragraph, “…too much work for no profit.” we waited for them to throw us a bone. Just one, to energize us and put in the effort. It never came.

I like the fact that you are focused on profits and not sales. This is something I preach to others every day.

Sometimes I think I should pay more attention to this…

If they’re changing, they need to send an email. I never look at this tab.

I haven’t for a long time either. Just logged in on MakerPlace dashboard and looked at the “Plan” page, there isn’t any notification on that page.

@ickynicks or anybody who has that notification, can you please post it or a screenshot of it?

I don’t quite understand this statement. To be a seller on MP you’d already have chosen a Plan, either the “Basic” or the “Professional”, so why anybody have to choose by 1/31?

The “Plan” page shows my plan is “Basic”, which was what I choose when I signed up, I’m just going to consider myself already chosen a plan and not doing anything now, MP better not automatically move me into the paid professional plan.

That is not correct. According to the comparison table (see below), the Basic plan also can get shipping label, I have the free Basic plan and was able to buy label recently.

Personally I would like to see a listing limitation with the basic plan as without, it will allow some of the same non handmade sellers that have flooded Amazon Handmade with FBA, will flood Michael’s with listings and fulfill them with MFN orders.

It would be nice also to prohibit drop shipping but of course there would be no way to enforce it.

Sorry I was not clear. There are two plans, basic and paid. If you want to switch to the other MakerPlace plan, you need to do it by January 31, 2025.

It may not be correct, but I read it (somewhere) yesterday in a description of both plans, but I am glad to be wrong. :woman_facepalming:

The plan page says they are going to send an email before the 31st. The path to see or change your plan, is your profile icon > seller dashboard > finances > plans.

Be sure to check out the YouTube video on this subject “Cheap and Toxic - The Dark Side of Mass-Produced Fashion Jewelry in China” that I referenced in a separate topic. Shein and Temu acquire 5,000 new jewelry designs a day, with one of their people saying, “Designers are expensive and copying is a lot cheaper.”

I found the shipping discrepancy between your information and mine. The computer version in your screenshot shows discounted shipping for UPS and USPS, whereas the same chart on my phone showed discounted shipping for UPS only. That was why it appeared USPS was not included in future USPS shipping label discounts.

Below is your computer screenshot followed by screenshots from my phone.

These screenshots for “UPS shipping” are from my phone. There is no mention of USPS shipping being available:

Thanks for that clarification. I don’t know the reason for the discrepancy between the the info on PC and the phone. Just glad USPS labels are available to Baisc plan.

MP had UPS labels available from the begining, and the USPS labels are recent change, so maybe they just haven’t updated the info on the Phone dashboard yet?

I think you may be correct. Or as @Dogtamer would say, “Nail meet hammer!”

Did they actually send out an email or announcement or is that just what you see in your dashboard?

I know I signed up for the professional plan at the very beginning over a year ago but have never actually been charged, I check back every few months and they keep extending the deadline. Mine does say my free trial ends on Jan 31st.

I can’t see how they feel justified in charging for a platform that is broken and missing basic functions. I think it’s just going to keep on being extended.

The Michael’s web page on my phone says, “We will remind you when it’s about to expire and before” (and the rest is cut off).

Right? I get zero comms from them, still nothing after the spam debacle!

This is enough for me to close. I’m old enough to remember artfire and how their paid vs not worked…or didn’t.

I had the legacy $6/month plan and ArtFire was OK decent for at least 5 years. When ownership changed, the site went downhill rapidly.

I’ve just seen in the Facebook group they have extended the free trial of the professional plan to April.
