I just got this today and when doing a search on amazon’s forum, it looks like some received it 2 weeks ago. Amazon keeps tweaking the shipping policies… I thought the SSA/AHT was the worst it can get. Now this…
The emails says “After this date, you must use the Per Item / Weight-Based rate model to set shipping fees on new templates. Existing shipping templates that already have the price band rate model set won’t be affected.”
Is this safe to say that as long as I don’t touch it, I’m still ok to use my existing template? (price-banded)
What are your thoughts?
It should be, but Amazon could glitch, or migrate something without telling you, or deprecate your existing templates without telling you, or some other amanonsense…
I’ve been following the ‘main’ NSFE discussion on this topic, “Concern About Deprecation of Price-Banded Shipping – Need a Viable Solution for Size-Based Shipping Costs” (link), ever since the OP posted it on 052425; I’m a bit surprised that there hasn’t been more discussion of the subject there and elsewhere.
The same question about “staying pat” has been posted to the ‘main’ thread linked above, but I’ll be (pleasantly) surprised if any actionable answer is forthcoming from the FMT-CMT any time soon…
Develop Plan B (or have an idea of what it will be) while the existing template still exist.
Should Amazon pull the plug on it … then you won’t be under the gun.
Our question would be … can you assign new items to the existing template? … or will Amazon require the use of the new template?
They claim they are only blocking the creation of new templates, not the further use of existing templates.
That claim and a metro card will get you a ride on the subway.
Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of… deprecate my existing template without telling me and replacing it with something generic and I am forced to lose money on shipping.
LOL
yup, that’s the thread I found too. I thought it would have much more replies than what it currently has. May be because not everyone received the notice yet? I just got mine today and OP received it 2 weeks ago.
Didn’t think of that until you mentioned it. I have plans to create 3 more listings in August.
I hope they pull the plug on this one, this is ridiculous.
I agree, but I’ve just found that the “Price-Banded shipping” section of the SHC’s “Set your shipping rates” (link) has been updated, w/ Amazon’s oh-so-typical laxity in observing proper grammar/syntax:
Sigh.
Can someone please help me understand this?
I have ONE shipping template on Amazon. It is standard shipping @ 3.99 per book and free shipping for books priced at $35.00 or more.
I only ship books to the US on Amazon, but allow international shipping on other venues where I can request extra shipping charges for heavy books.
I have not been able to get rid of the other Amazon shipping templates I did not create, so end up going through every book listing on Amazon to make sure a shipping template I don’t want has been applied, and then changing the ones I don’t want.
If I don’t check the shipping templates on Amazon fast enough, I get stupid orders from outside the US with NO shipping money, and then take a hit for cancelling them.
Create, edit, or delete shipping templates
Remember to set the template you use to be the default template
Thanks for your help. I will try to interpret it tomorrow.
“can’t delete the default or migrated template”
I deleted all migrated templates at the beginning (the beginning being when media sellers were finally allowed to set rates)
The default was a migrated template. After creating and assigning templates I deleted all migrated, including the one that had been used as default.
You definitely cannot delete any template that is being used – even by just one item.
I’m still a little confused by their wording… the email I received said existing price band templates won’t be affected. Is this no longer true?
Amazon often issues contradictory language because the people who write the help pages are not the same people who write emails and they don’t talk to each other. The language around credit cards vs debit cards is an example.
The only way to know which statement is true is to wait until they either trash your existing templates… or not.
You can try asking Seller Support or a mod on the NSFE, but if you come back an hour later and ask again, you will probably get a different answer, and they will both end up being wrong.
So true. I guess I’ll create a backup template in case they actually delete my price banded template.
Yep
KJ_Amazon just posted a reply indicating that s/he’s confirmed that existing Price-Banded Shipping Templates will not be affected:
We’ll see soon enough just how much water that statement actually holds…
Dingdingding
I’m now wondering, if it does not get affected and in fact we can still use it, will modifying it would affect anything. If we can still use it but locked to where we can’t modify it anymore, that will also be an issue.
I did create a back up template but would still rather use the price banded one.
