Grats!
So far what I am hearing sounds like it can be a promising marketplace.
I am curious about where the traffic is coming from ATM. Its not like the name/marketplace is well known.

I wouldn’t be too surprised that right now mostly just all the sellers on MakerPlace and maybe people who works for Michaels are checking out the site and maybe making some purchases.
Yeah the traffic numbers look pretty slim right now. But hey, if your getting orders that’s what counts.

That’s awesome, congratulations!! I finally got Faire done so now I need to turn some time back to this. So much to do, so little time.
I am now getting this ad, in multiple online spaces, multiple times a day. Love to see it!
“AUTHENTICALLY HANDMADE”
To be clear, I am a handmaker but not a Handmaker and do not sell handmade items on Amazon Handmade, Etsy, IG, MakerPlace, anywhere online, or anywhere not online. I am a hobbyist with some buzz that I’m not interested in monetizing at this time–but because I have ecom experience, a small business, tons of social media responsibilities, a non-profit, and like prettyprettyshiny things, I pay attention (also ADHD @ModernSwitch ).
Not as bad as the ones I get Our team has access to our social media, so anything they look at ends up in our feed.
I am really always just perplexed when I see ads. I don’t know that advertising works on me or for me. It seems like the ads shown to me are supposed to be in my interest….but yet they miss the mark…day late dollar short lol.
Yes I’m interested in michaels but I’m already a seller. Are there people out there in the vast world of the internet who are not informed of michaels that are receiving Michelle’s ads?
I bought a car last year and I’m in a Facebook group for the car make/model. And yet I am constantly getting ads from the car manufacturer, from dealerships, etc wanting to sell me this car. All this ad money wasted to reach a “potential customer”, yet I am already a customer so it’s pointless.
I guess I am glad they are advertising….but is it money well spent? I guess I wish there was a way to see if these ads are actually working and bringing in new buyers. Someone somewhere has the data to know.
I am glad to see them funding a $5 discount to their rewards members….and someone somewhere is paying attention to something because shortly after that Etsy did a $5 off promotion as well
There are many authentic Handmakers who sell on social media (FB, IG) but not the “big” sites (Etsy, Amazon, maybe eBay?). Those casual handicrafters aren’t really plugged into the ecom world, but they are Michaels’ ideal MakerPlace partners.
So Michaels is (wisely!) targeting those real handmakers who might either think their products don’t fit on the big sites or who might be willing to dip their toes into ecom with a friendly, familiar face.
So in other words those marketing effects are more for Michaels’ benefits than for Makers who are already part of MakerPlace.
Seen today in my Facebook feed. Note that I don’t wven follow or “like” Michaels, so they are indeed spending something to get the word out about MakerPlace.
A like that it’s a little fierce, throwing some shade
The product carousel was eclectic but mostly either holiday decor or holiday gifts.
Meet MakerPlace by Michaels—the better home for all things handmade.
Huzzah!
Hooray!
Let there be light shone from the Handmade Artisan’s many appealing beacons, upon all of us whose wallets welcome their still-sterling efforts to keep craftsmanship alive, come what may.
Someone in the Facebook group was saying that Michael’s was promoting someone who was selling Ali express stuff. I asked who and got no response so I have no idea if that is true or not. Cant stand it when people are vague.
So I finally signed up for Michaels today. I was verified within 1 minute, so while I know I’m legit, I’m kind of surprised they agreed so quickly?
I saw that too but have not seen any listings that scream AliExpress…yet.
I think maybe it was referring to the person selling drink stirrers featured on Instagram. Which could be handmade if there are using something like a glowforge to cut acrylic sheets.
Took the plunge. Now I have a shop there too.
I might make some how-to, could be a nice passive income stream.
That’s my thought - can’t hurt!
