Sportsballs and more sports

I’ll admit; I’ve stopped watching baseball. I used to follow it quite a lot; but once they made it impossible to watch anything other than the local team without paying a lot of money, (and even watching the local team was hard), I lost interest.
Tis a shame; baseball is losing audience, but I think they shot themselves in the foot with their greed. (remember the days of two random games every Saturday, on free broadcast TV?)

Now, if the Guardians would just get their act together and finish off the Rays, they might get an extra day or so of rest. They definitely need it with playing 5 full games in the division series and now at least 6 games in the conference series.

Sorry/not sorry to those that think they like the Rays but are self deceived…

I’m hoping it goes a full 7 games so they are both worn out. Maybe the Brewers can beat up on whichever one wins like the :face_with_symbols_on_mouth::face_with_symbols_on_mouth::face_with_symbols_on_mouth::face_with_symbols_on_mouth: Dodgers did last year to an exhausted Crew…

It’s nice to see lower payroll teams going to the end. That brings renewed hope that there might actually be baseball in 2027.

Mets (my team) had one of the highest and finished dead last…

Dodgers got humiliated. That was nice.

As a Braves fan when I followed it, long enough ago that the Dodgers were their main rival (both in NL West), I can’t agree more!

Now that this is a sports thread, even though I don’t follow baseball anymore, I’ll throw out my baseball brags:

  1. My first baseball game I got to watch Hank Aaron and Willie Mays play. A bit disappointing, as SF won, and I was pulling for the Braves (my sister was happy; she used to watch SF during Spring Training when she lived in Arizona)*
  2. I got to see Cal Ripkin Jr. play. In the minors!
  3. I sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with Harry Caray. Sadly, that was his last Spring Training game before he passed away.

*Side note; I was about 6 or 7 at the time of my first MLB game. First time I heard the National Anthem played (they didn’t show it on TV games back then). I heard the last line “Home of the Brave(s)” and just figured that every team had their own version to sing.

Guardians? Of the Galaxy? Or am I to understand that there is now a professional baseball team named “The Guardians”?

Yeah, because calling them the “Indians” is a racial slur.

My HS was the Indians way back then. I have no idea what they are called now.

Marquette was the Warriors and that got changed to some Gold thing or other.

I’m waiting for the Bucks to get changed after losing Giannis. Maybe to the Eunuchs or something…

Well perhaps if we could have come up with something better for a name than things like the “redskins” lol the bar could have stayed where it was. I mean if you are going to clean house, get all the trash and trash adjacent items while you are at it.
Certain religious groups have been offended by the “Blue Devils” and the “Padres” and the like for using demons and pedos as their mascots. Don’t get me started on “Ole Miss”, as that’s another third rail.
Ease to outrage by everyone and everything.

I declare that henceforth all teams shall use only animal names that have been vetted by historians, zoologists, lawyers, and middle school boys.

I like the Crestview Comets… well unless one is going to Shoemaker Levy 9 Earth. Until then, the Anaheim Asteroids are a safe name to me.

I suppose naming anything the “Pluto …” would be unthinkable…

Probably because Disney will be all up in their chili.

And any of the other bodies in the Pluto system will get the religious fruitcakes all riled up (well, the ones of them smart enough to know who Charon is/was)
