Walmart Update for Prohibited Products

Dear Valued Seller,

Walmart is in the process of updating our Prohibited Products Policy. In the coming days, we will restrict product listings in the Beauty and Personal Care categories. Certain sellers, including brand owners and authorized distributors, will still be allowed to sell.

Soon we will reach out to select sellers to participate in our enhanced vetting program for these products. The requirements for this program are currently as follows and may be subject to change:

  1. Seller maturity in the Personal Care or Beauty categories. This analysis includes sales and results on other platforms, individual sales on a seller’s own platform, and prior experience selling these highly regulated products; and

  2. Sellers must provide one of the following sets of documents for each personal care or beauty item in their assortment:

  • Invoices demonstrating chain of title back to the brand owner or manufacturer;
  • FDA regulatory documentation (e.g., registration and listing, MOCRA documents, NDC number(s), 510(k), etc.);
  • Letters of Authorization from brand owners;
  • Third party test reports relevant to the product(s); or
  • Claims substantiation or safety substantiation documents for the product(s).

We’re sharing this information in advance to help you prepare to provide documentation to continue selling your items on Walmart.com if you are selected for our enhanced vetting program. If you do not receive additional details about enhanced vetting, there is no need to open a support ticket about this issue.

Note, if you have impacted listings with Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), please refer to this guide on Marketplace Learn for instructions on how to initiate inventory removals.

Thank you for your business,

The Walmart Marketplace team

Pretty soon there won’t be many LARGE venues that OA and RA sellers are going to be able to operate on.

Interesting… Where did you get this from? We didn’t get this email.

Overall not concerned because:

  1. We are the brand owner and have registered the brand with Walmart.
  2. We have the IP.
  3. We technically are the manufacturer and obviously have all of the documentation, and then some.
  4. We have strong sales on Walmart and Amazon.
  5. Walmart needs us more than we need them, unlike Amazon.

Unfortunate and unprofessional that they put the cart before the horse and didn’t send this out before they yanked everything.

But again, would really like to know where you got this from. Email?

Thanks
Steve

Yes this came via email at 12:40 EST today, Saturday.
Header does appear to be official.

I don’t think that was their intention, not sure if items were removed prior to this warning.. Nothing from our inventory has been removed but not sure anything we sell would fall into the categories that are under review.

Will post additional information if received.

We got that email too.

Gotta love how Walmart opens with “Dear Valued Seller” while yanking listings with zero notice, zero explanation, and zero way to fix it unless you’re one of the “select” sellers they might reach out to.

No idea who qualifies for this mysterious “enhanced vetting” program, because Walmart hasn’t said a word. Crickets.

I’m one of the lucky ones without WFS stock caught in the crossfire, but plenty of sellers now have to pay to pull their inventory with no real guidance on what’s next.

Meanwhile, support tickets are sitting in the void. I’ve got ones open for 10 days with nothing but the initial auto-response and a whole lot of silence.

I used to think Amazon was tough. Walmart said, “Challenge accepted,” and somehow cranked the chaos dial even higher.

At this point, even a “Sorry, you didn’t make the cut” email would be nice. But hey, maybe radio silence is the new support strategy.

4 posts were split to a new topic: Walmart Account Suspended

We never got this message but, this Saturday 4,400 items are now showing [ERROR] and are removed.

We still have some items up but the items added by “Walmart’s White Glove Team” after being heavily recruited by Walmart.
They came to us and said give us a file we will list the items for you.

…Gee thanks looks like I have 4,400 appeals to make now.
Trying to find some kind of account manager (if they still exist)

Are you alive already? White Glove should help with the appeals. Feel free to message me your account details.

A “Partner manager” sent me..

Here’s what the strategic team has conveyed to me to remove the error messages on your listings:

Please provide a short narrative summary describing your maturity and experience in selling the specific product types impacted, either individually or through another platform. Additionally, for enhanced vetting of Beauty and Personal Care Product Types, please provide the relevant documents below for any of your Beauty and Personal Care Products (e.g., OTC Drugs, Dietary Supplements, Medical Devices, Cosmetics):

  1. Invoices showing where you obtained the inventory (which should track back to the manufacturer or brand owner);

  2. FDA regulatory documentation (e.g., registration and listing, MOCRA documents, NDC number(s), 510(k), etc.);

  3. Letters of Authorization from brand owners;

  4. Third party test reports relevant to the product(s);

  5. Claims substantiation or safety substantiation documents for the product(s).

Please, submit the requested info via case.

No mention on what option to choose when making a case so I’ll force on up

Well if that “Partner manager” wants me to invest in any advertising I hope he helps out. Walmart must see that we were recruited not just signed up, right?

I’ve been emailing a few people that I have been communicating with @ Walmart.

One sent me this…

Walmart has made the decision to restrict certain product types in the Health & Wellness category, including dietary supplements, OTC drugs, OTC medical devices, personal care, and beauty. In addition, select product types will be gated for food supplements and pet-ingestible items. At this time, only brand owners, and sellers who are authorized by brand owners are allowed to list and sell in these product types. Thank you for your partnership and understanding of this policy.

There is no real information other than “Make a case” coming out of Walmart, however if you have ever made a case on Walmart there is no category in the options that handles this new issue.

I’m not making 4,400 individual cases.

I’ll be honest, I kinda like this.

It also moves the vetting and liability so to speak from Walmart to the brand owner.

The official verbiage we’ve been given to provide to sellers:

As part of our process related to prohibited products, we’re requesting additional
information for enhanced vetting in the Health and Wellness space. For any of your Health
and Wellness products (e.g., OTC Drugs, Dietary Supplements, Medical Devices,
Cosmetics), please provide the relevant documents below.

  1. Invoices showing where you obtained the inventory;
  2. FDA regulatory documentation- (e.g., registration and listing, NDC number(s),
    510(k), etc.);
  3. Letters of Authorization from brand owners;
  4. Third party test reports relevant to the product(s);
  5. Claims of safety substantiation documents for the product(s)

Please reach out to your business account manager if you have any additional questions.

Unfortunately, I’m not an Account Manager so do not have any additional guidance to provide then what has been shared with me.

As a consumer, I like this.
However, as a seller,

That’s just not reasonable.
Walmart needs a process where sellers can get ungated rather than making a seller ungate each product.

Where? How? To Whom?

Do I have a business account manager? Is this a thing that Walmart sellers have, or is this a paid program, or just available on an invite basis?
If I have a business account manager, how do I find out who that is?

AM Assignments tend to be on an invite basis. This is something we’re having to navigate and learn as well so if I receive additional information I will be sure to post it.
