Weather

The ultra-conservative weather channel is calling for 12-18” for NYC. That’s insane. Last 5 years combined we haven’t seen 18”. We are catching up though.

2, 3” storms over this past weekend. Not enough for the snow blower so still recovering from taking care of my property and the 4 elderly neighbors I take care of. One of them gave us their garage to use whenever we want because they no longer drive which is very nice and appreciated. Hope she lives to 200. Haha

PSA for those with high efficiency heaters and water heaters, CHECK YOUR VENTS

These vents do not always go out your roof, so clear them!

Yep, just watching one of the weather geeks on YouTube saying the models have shifted about 100 miles north; but also that it’s still early and they could shift back. Really scary part is how wide the freezing rain band is; from about Atlanta up into WV and to just south of DC by later in the day. Over 1" forecast in some places!

So far, seeing about a foot forecast for us, but it seems to change every couple of hours, so we’re prepping for not going anywhere for a couple of days (Oops, as I’m typing, see the new forecast for 17"!)

Gonna take in mail on Saturday; I’m debating about putting in a Vacation day to make it so I don’t have to ship any weekend orders until Wednesday.

Storm hits here Friday pm thru Sunday am. We set Monday as a Custom Holiday as a buffer to Thursday orders that would normally need to go out Monday and will go out Tuesday instead. Friday thru Sunday orders will then go Wednesday.

Note

We have two day handle time with Saturday & Sunday set as closed.

Spent today preparing. Got snow shovels out. Fired up the generator to make sure it would. Put the generator battery on trickle charger. Tomorrow, will set up a trickle charger on the truck after we get back from town from shopping and filling up the truck and 3 five gallon cans with gas.

Our aunt in South Carolina called and is concerned about having it be an ice storm at her end. Her comment to us was … “this isn’t your first rodeo is it?” … made us smile.

Two things:
I meant to say “Custom Holiday” instead of Vacation day (something I think imperative to anyone on 1 day handling!)

And second, I heard a weather term I’d never heard in my 50+ years of following weather; “Catastrophic ice conditions”.

I’m up in the snow only area, but I have a feeling that a lot of stuff is going to be disrupted for multiple days. Went to regular grocery store and Trader Joes today; tomorrow is produce store and Goodwill to dump a bunch of books, then getting more wine and rum is all that’s left on the list.

Well … it was madness out there today. Wife had a physical therapy appointment so I dropped her off and went to the grocery store to top off our milk and eggs (and a couple of extras). All checkout lanes were open and about 3 to 5 deep waiting. Normal is maybe you wait as the next person in line. Then on to Costco to get gas. All lanes were 4 to 6 deep which rarely happens. As I was finishing filling up 3 five gallon cans and was then putting gas in the truck, the lady behind us started honking her horn and pointing as us as if we were doing something wrong. Sorry lady … we’re going to have gas on hand to run our generator if the power goes out as it often does during these strong storms.

Glad to be back home in the middle of no where away from the chaos.

At that point I tend to pop the hood and double/triple check the oil and windshield washer fluid. :smiling_face_with_horns: :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Anyone want to trade their snow for my cold??

Always wanted to toss a glass of hot water into the air and see it crystalize in the air as you tossed it.

Maybe you could make a video to share?

The weather forecast(s) predicting the expected amount of snowfall for my area keep changing. A few days ago they predicted 1-3 inches of snow. Not too bad. Then they increased it to 4-6 inches, Not as good. Now the latest forecast is predicting 6-8 inches of snow. That could be a problem.

I live in one of the first areas to be hit by the upcoming storm. By tomorrow evening we will know the intensity of the storm.

Stay safe everyone.

:up_arrow: What they said.

I intended to come here when the thread first opened. I watch the weather quite often as a pilot, doing renovations and then in eCommerce. This morning I find myself doing it for other reasons.

My partner got headhunted a few years ago out of our company. She is now the assistant to the president of a large bank. Last night we were at a statewide wine tasting that the bank was the prime sponsor of for the Bank.

This morning she starts before dawn trying to get her boss out of Florida back to New England. She is in the other room dealing with flights. he is insisting on coming in Monday. This after 10 inches of snow in Boston they have another three coming overnight through dawn on Tuesday.

This is MHT our local airfield.

I use the National Weather Service enter your location, select “Hourly Weather Forecast” on the next page.

We use this since it avoids the porn on the local news channels.

For those of you to the East reading, who at some point may have punched down on the 40 million people on the other side of the country for one reason or another… Enjoy your weekend.

Seriously though, be safe, watch out for your neighbors like we do when the place is burning the rest of the year.

Nope. My philosophy is that if it’s cold, we need snow on the ground and the potential for making snow families in the yard. Looks like some areas are going to get both.

It seems the forecast was a bit off since it’s only 11 BELOW currently and only feels like 20 BELOW!

I’m doing a run to the PO later today and then hibernating. If I were still drinking this would be a perfect hot buttered rum day/night/weekend. And double up on the rum…

I managed to snag a delivery spot on Amazon Fresh for Saturday morning, but Whole Foods earliest spot is now Monday morning, in the predicted thick of things in NYC.
