I’m seeing 12-18. I will believe that when I see it, which is what she said. ![]()
So you’re talking millimeters …

I’m still waiting for the snow to start. I don’t mind the delay.
They’re still predicting snow for our area but maybe a lower amount than first predicted, at least for tonight. We may get more tomorrow.
According to radar, the freezing rain/ice is way south of us in Texas and Arkansas. Be careful if you’re in that area.
Got our first layer of ice pellets on the ground … and they are now saying 10 inches to 18 inches of snow … up a little from the original 2 inches to 6 inches … local tv channel experienced a little outage a few minutes ago …
Changed the wife’s doctor’s appointment on Monday to a phone appointment so we can stay off the roads.
I’d like to see a picture of that
The snow is starting to taper off her. It appears that we received 4-5 inches but that’s just a visual guess on my part. The current temperature is 3˚ F and won’t get much higher. It will be cold again tomorrow and temps won’t rise significantly until Monday when it is supposed to be in the balmy 20s.
We have had snow, sleet, and/or freezing rain all day, sometimes sticking and sometimes not. Evidently overnight and tomorrow night there’s supposed to be heavy snow, and school was announced today to be closed on Monday. Yes, temps in the teens, so that if there is moisture it won’t melt, but we’re still just entertained by 2026 starting so extra.
All winter, all at once! ![]()
You’d think they’d put something other than a white cap on them. ![]()
As of 5:00 AM, it looks like about 6" of snow here in the Shenandoah Valley with sleet now falling (much preferred to freezing rain).
We wouldn’t mind shoveling if it would just stop snowing …
There is actually a set of color coding for hydrants to help indicate how much flow they can provide; although I don’t think that it’s followed everywhere. But looking it up, “White” is not one of the options within the standard.
Of course, now I can’t recall what color the bonnets are of the hydrants near me (bodies are red). And I’m not going out now to look! (might not be able to find them anyway)
Just did another pass on the driveway, I think we are about 1 1/4 feet here
You are correct on both parts.
Most areas just paint them one color. Where I lived as a kid ALL SILVER, the city near by, yellow. It all depends.
Where I live now (I am on well, no water service no hydrants), but not far away they are Red bodies white caps.
The snow has stopped here. It is 12 degrees and sunny
I shoveled snow a little bit on my back porch and driveway. (I had to be careful because I just had cataract surgery and I’m not supposed to lift over 25 lbs. or do heavy work). My back porch & driveway are south-facing so I’m hoping that the sun will do most of the snow removal work for me.
I also shoveled a bit on the front porch and sidewalk so as to have access. As I was pushing the snow off the porch I discovered a small package underneath. It had been tossed there by a late delivery and completely covered by the night time snow. Fortunately the package was completely encased in plastic wrapping so it should be good.
Stay safe everyone.
