43 here today. Our snow is melting. It is supposed to be in the 50’s later this week.

68 here in West Texas on our way to the 70s this weekend … only snow left is on the north side of the buildings and where we had piled the snow when shoveling the driveway 8 days ago …

It’s gonna be 6 Sat night here. If we’re lucky.

I was nicely distributing snow into the street to clear another parking space and it was melting almost instantaneously today.

Then a car stops in front of my house warning me that the sanitation dept is giving out tickets to people doing the same a couple blocks away.

The same sanitation department that hasn’t picked up trash, recycling, food scraps, or anything else in 2 freaking weeks. The same sanitation dept that was driving around in plows today putting tons of snow in the street so it melts.

Make it make sense.

Well, when there’s a $12,000,000,000 shortfall in the yearly budget, every penny counts… :innocent:

I keep reading about the Polar Vortex being unsettled.

Since many meteorologists can’t seem to write plain, understandable English, I think this means weather will get very warm in Feb ”unexpected in Feb.” they say-everything begin to bloom-or lawns begin to green….

Then another blizzard of atrocious size/strength, perhaps in March. So don’t put away those coats and snow shovels yet.

A Facebook friend of mine posted this. I think it explains the Polar Vortex very well.

Well… Feb will be about half over before we get close to normal in NYC according to the forecast.

Long range temp forecasts (even by groundhogs) are shoddy at best. I don’t recall this type of cold being forecasted for this winter back in the fall when those long range forecasts came out.

I don’t recall weather like this in my lifetime (51 years)….

These pics are 8 days apart. No melting…. Just crazy.

This weekend is going to be the coldest air of the season. They keep saying that…. When will it stop? lol

IDK about that, I’ve hit -10F a few times in the last 15 days

I feel toasty then in the high upper single digits at times….

That’s cold though considering how close we are to the ocean….

Have you seen the Hudson? That’s happened before that I can recall, but I’m sure the ice flow will set a record this year.

No Ferry service for days so far. Could be another week. Wonder how those people are getting to work….

Just went out for the first time since the snow. OMG, There were 8-10 foot tall piles of snow on 2nd and 3rd Avenues in Manhattan. I can’t recall seeing this much snow in many years of living here.

Buses running and reasonably well shoveled out at the bus stops. Traffic is abominable.

Looks like this snow will be with us for the next several weeks, although the city is trying its best at removal:

Nisha and I decided to take advantage of the warm spell and go for a walk in the park:

It was great to get out of the house.

Tractor service company called today “Can we pickup tomorrow for your winter service?”
“Yeah, no, I haven’t actually been able to get to the barn for a week, give me till monday.”
“Everyone is saying the same thing! No problem”

So guess I have to first get out to the barn (easy, it’s only a foot of snow under the sleet) and then make a path to drive the beast out (It might drive over, not sure)

You have a tractor?

Is my math right here? The “bad” forecast by the groundhog of 6 more weeks of winter gets us to March 16th, which isn’t even the start of spring (March 20th). So, good or bad forecast, we have an expectation that the groundhog will end winter early?
