You are correct
With as cold as it has been and that mound of ice, nah, they would have shattered too!

Spring break isnāt until late March or April. It will be warmer by then.
Something to look forward to according to this story in the Washington Post ā
https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2026/02/09/el-nino-weather-warmth/
" El NiƱo can influence severe weather season in the United States, too. In an average year, about 1,200 twisters form across the country ā particularly from March to June ā but El NiƱo can lead to fewer spring tornadoes. Thatās especially the case in pockets of the southern Plains and Mid-South. At the same time, El NiƱo can lead to increased tornado frequency in parts of the Deep South, related to changes in the jet stream."
Finally got slightly above freezing today but it was cloudy so not a damn thing melted.
Bring on global warming - PLEASEā¦..
Because I am tired of driving my kid to and from school, even though he has a car and a license - because the streets are still such a mess, after 17 days post-storm - that thereās nowhere for him to parkā¦..!
⦠that would be good news for our neck of the woods (actually ⦠lack of woods in the plains).
We might be longing for some of that warmth.
We had the first rumbles of thunder for the season tonight. The rain is welcomed but the thunder puts us on alert for those springtime thunderstorms with large hail to come.

Just for awareness, everything bad weather is happening in California today, affecting ports and air traffic:
Itās the west coasts turn. Yay. We had enough with the arctic air and snow (of which we got another inch overnight)ā¦.
Meanwhile, weāre back to faux spring. Highs in the high 60s, low-mid 70s this week. Iām taking advantage of the ability and willingness to walk outside again.
And it is going to be 80 today and tomorrow here in the South Plains of Texas with the winds cranking up this afternoon and into tomorrow and Wednesday.
Xcel electric company sent out a warning that they may have to turn off the grid tomorrow to limit the risk of a fire (couple of years ago Xcel equipment caused a huge fire costing millions in damages). Needless to say ⦠we are pushing to get orders done as they come in and will get up around 4am to print labels (before main wind event starts). Probably have to repeat the process Wednesday morning.
A little more rain and/or snow would be nice to get rid of the dry grass smell.
Seriously it got to the point that 28F with no wind was starting to feel warm.
They plowed the roads like they expected the snow to melt in 2-3 days (granted that has been the way for the past 5 years). By the time they realized it wasnāt the snow was solid ice.
Itās been absolutely insane here. And every day above freezing lately has been cloudy. Iāve been chipping up frozen snow and throwing it in the street to melt so we have parking spaces for 3 weeksā¦. Getting there. I hear rain is coming this week. That will help bigtime⦠We got over an inch of snow last nightā¦. Was not expecting to shovel today.
I was wondering where my California customers disappeared to.
Submarine?? You take that Neighborhood Watch thing very seriously.
Say it aināt soā¦. Hearing rumblings of a big snow storm Sun-Mon for the NEā¦.
Sky is brown with a dirt cloud. Wind gusts between 60mph and 70mph. There will be some clean up as there are several tree branches down around town. Been a few car accidents where people couldnāt see the other vehicle (like a heavy fog but itās thick brown dirt blowing).
Spring time on the South Plains ⦠canāt wait for it to be over.
Yikes!!!
The town came through this morning and hauled away the snow piles. I commented that it seems rather odd to worry about it when itās nearly 50° and going to be warm for several more days.
Then Nisha asked āIs there a big snowstorm coming?ā I told her I didnāt think so, but checked, and saw a forecast for 6". Then checked again just a couple of hours later, now the forecast is 8+"!
(and being cold for several days after, so no melting).
