Thanks. I work in the basement (dungeon) and actually don’t see much daylight most days except when I’m going to the PO or UPS.
I MIGHT notice if the roof blew off. As long as it doesn’t take too much inventory that is upstairs and in the garage I’m good.
My wife was visiting with relatives in southern Illinois and they had tornado watches issued and subsequent power outages. No damage other than a fence crushed by a large branch. Last picture I got before her battery ran out was of all the relatives in a room with faces illuminated by their phones.
Just came on here to say I hope everyone is okay. I was watching the massive tornadoes tear through Illinois last night on YT.
I was watching that one live as well. The channel I watch the meteorologist is a huge Culver’s fan (he named his cat Cheese Curd) it hit him really hard to see the barn destroyed

WOW! It is a white-out. I can’t see more than a block away.
Pretty much same here. For about 30 seconds, could barely see to the back of the yard, but could see enough to see the trees bent WAY over; I’m guessing 60-70mph winds. Heavy rain lasted about 2-3 minutes, then the lightening started. One big flash with about 1 second delay to the thunder; cats jumped (so did Nisha), but settled down quickly.
A couple of hours later, clear skies and much cooler. I was considering going out for a walk, but then remembered that US is playing in World Cup.
And yeah! US just SCOOOOOOREDDDDDD!!!
Thanks! No injuries or expensive damage and power was back on by 2 AM. My wife did get to hear a tornado warning siren for the first time, which she said got her attention.
Heavy rain is headed my way soon. 1-2 inches in about hour. Possible flash flooding too. I will keep you updated of any significant events.

Today is a gridlock alert day in NYC due to a World Cup game in north Jersey. We also have a storm warning fo this afternoon, with predicted 1 - 2 inches of rain an hour at some points.
I am not going out today.
As we finished dinner tonight, the weather radio started squawking at us. Storm coming at us was strong with some quarter size hail. A few minutes later, the TV breaks programming to alert that this storm now had a tornado on the back side. It’s about 6 miles out … north - north west of us traveling south - south east. So since it was coming towards us, we did our normal prep. Then … luck on our side, the storm started going directly south. Within a few more minutes, the tornado warning was lifted but was telling people to stay in shelter and protected as the storm was dropping baseball size hail. We feel for the people who live 5 miles west of us. There will probably be serval pictures of damaged cars and homes on the news tomorrow.
Glad this storm decided to dodge our home.
Yikes! When I read that the tornado was NNW of you, I figured you were probably okay. Weird to hear of them moving south; I’m so used to them moving east to NE.

This was a few mins after. Look at the quantity and sheer size of these hail stones… Wish I could find the pic I took,showing the craters in the lawn. It was INSANE! Every single roof, without exception, in a square mile needed to be replaced. Our roof was only 5 years old - house was new.
There has never been a hail storm like this in NYC (any borough) before or after (thankfully).
I have vague memories of that day. I believe we are about 10-15 miles apart; I heard reports of the damage, but we had nothing more than a light sprinkle.
Amazing how local stuff like this can be.
July 1, 2017 … at midnight … hail broke out all of the windows on the north and west side of our house, dented the metal siding on the north and west (1,000s of dents), and dented all of the property roofs. $50,000 worth of hail damage. The ground looked like snow. The hail was 3 feet deep along the north side and didn’t fully melt for 10 days in 95+ degree heat. Our son’s car was totaled. People who didn’t have metal roofs had holes poked in them. Some homes had holes through the walls.
Baseball size around here isn’t all that abnormal. Hail around here can be softball size or even grapefruit size.
Here tornadoes can travel SSE, SE, NNE, NE, and E. We have had one travel SSW and one NNW. Those two directions are very abnormal.
If it’s NNW of us and traveling SSE, it’s probably a fairly large one and something to pay attention to (that is what our July 1, 2017 was).
From a personal level (nothing compared to tornadoes or hail), I’m upset right now with the humidity.
It’s cool enough to have the windows open; actually feels really nice with a light breeze. But the humidity is about 84%. So anything cold is getting condensation.
Which means that, when I picked up my (IMO) well deserved glass of rum on the rocks, it slipped from my hand and broke on the floor. Not only am I out a glass of rum, but have to clean up a mess, and lost one of my preferred “rocks” glasses.
I almost wish it had been a hotter day, so we would be running A/C.

When we were last in Paris, a few years ago, we stayed in a lovely AirBNB in the 16th, on the 6th floor right below the roof, and OMG, it was hot, with no A/C and not even a fan. It was brutal, but we managed.
