Down to 59 at the vents. I’m going to let it shut off at 74 and cycle a few times before we get it down to our normal 71 for sleeping. We still have the 2 portables going to boost it. In reality - I’ve got 70K BTUs going to cool down 2400 SF (1st floor / basement).

This is the problem with trying to actually make things better for the planet.
Nobody does the right thing so the reality is the progress makes things worse.
Down to 86 degrees here after a brief thunderstorm, but the air looks weird. Can’t see more than 10 blocks. That is a half-mile here.
Yea, we can smell the smoke here in NE Queens. This really is just as bad as a few years ago now.
It’s very thick and close to the ground.
That’s the issue; it’s not as high as 3 years ago, so getting more of the smell and less of the orange sky (although as noted, it still looks weird).
The highest I saw the AQI hit today was 180 at a sensor in Harlem (the second closest official sensor to me). Not as bad as the high numbers from last time, but the reality is “Triggers an asthma attack in 10 minutes” is not that much different from “Triggers an asthma attack in 5 minutes”.
Remember when R-410A came out it was Puron by Carrier with a green world logo and that it was billed as “the environmentally sound refrigerant”… Pepperidge Farm and Dogtamer remembers:
It was better for the environment (no Chlorine) and safe around people if it leaked.
454B “Puron Advanced” is “better” for the environment but now flammable so dangerous to people if it leaks…
Both aren’t as efficient as earlier choices…
Might as well just go back to using Ammonia R717 for more than just industrial uses. It is one of the most efficient and is only Nitrogen and 3 Hydrogen. Great for environment and can be really dangerous to people which is apparently the magic combination in the “doesn’t make sense age” we’re in.

From here, it was clearer today but now is so foggy that I can barely see 10 blocks. My son, who walks to midtown to work, said the air quality was better today v. yesterday.
The smoke and the smell is insane. This is worse than the last worst fire smoke from a few years ago.
As for the picture - that’s the temperature coming out of the vents. You want somewhere between 17 and 20 degrees differential between return and supply air to consider the system to be performing well.
Your return air is the temp in the house. Return meaning the air going into the air handler to be cooled (or heated in the winter).
Supply is the air coming from the system through the vents.
I want to add that the system was running like 
from 3:30PM yesterday until around 1PM today. Supply air was in the low 60’s. And it just ran continuously.
We also had 2 portables going to boost it. And we also have a humidex system in our basement.
Little did I know, until I went on Dr. Google that those 3 things running were sucking air out of the house and causing a negative pressure situation that was messing with the HVAC.
So the fact that the compressor was new and settling / pressure balancing & stabilizing, coupled with the very high humidity in the house - the unit was pissing water like a faucet, coupled with the fact that it was off for 5 days, coupled with the 3 things sucking air out of the house = I called the HVAC guy to come back. LOL
He was coming tomorrow morning but I cancelled because all is the way it should be now.
So word to the wise for anyone getting HVAC work done like this. It takes time to balance out.
It is way worse here in the past 2 hours. Visibility is about 1/4-1/2 mile and we are told its only going to get worse overnight. Some Amusement parks have closed across the north also.
Unlike in 2023, I would swear that when I took out the trash (only reason I went outside at all today), I could see swirls of smoke just in the space of 50’ or so. You would think that it would be quite homogenous after traveling this far, but apparently not yet.
And smell is bad (I think due to being closer than the fires causing problems last time). Noticeable difference between the floors of the house, with upstairs being far worse. Thankfully bedroom isn’t as bad; maybe that’s the difference between a GE window A/C and the Chinese brand we have in the office.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow afternoon when it’s supposed to start clearing. I’m getting a bit stir crazy; the only thing worse than that is living with Nisha who is getting stir crazy! 
I can see ash on my infrared security cameras… Decent size particles raining down like snow… I feel like I am in that Dante’s Peak movie. lol
I can see some ash, but I do notice that everything is brighter because there is a lot more to reflect off of.
Yea, I was wondering why that was. Thought somehow the cameras cleaned themselves. lol
I just read something along the lines of spending an hour or so outdoors was like smoking a cigarette.
That blows my mind. I would have figured it would be a time measured in minutes if not seconds. Taking the garbage can to the street (about 25’) was agony; I can’t imagine that someone would suffer an hour’s worth of that for pleasure.
With all the smoke and the news stories about it, SOME people appear to be totally oblivious.

I’ll admit; after cutting the cord and getting all of my info either online or through streaming, I miss some of the local news; but after living through the smoke of 2023, after stepping outside several days ago, it took me all of half a second to guess that we were seeing smoke from far-away fires. It’s not rocket surgery.
I put this on the level of the people who complain that Amazon should not punish them for not going on vacation and then not shipping when they were hit by a hurricane because “forecast said it would be 20 mi west of us, not a direct hit” (yes, that’s real)
