It’s been a joke of a mix of sayings for some time; I think I picked it up about 10-12 years ago from The Simpsons (ironic, since I don’t generally watch it).
But then there was a leak on the ISS a few years back, where a Russian cosmonaut pulled out the rough equivalent of a Boy Scout pocket knife to start cutting away insulation around the suspected link; so yes, apparently, it’s a real thing! (I tried to find the video; no success).
Something I figured out in the last 10 minutes or so.
The smoke smell is not very bad downstairs; maybe the GE window A/C filters it out better than the units upstairs.
But apparently it doesn’t do ANYTHING about the skunk that apparently just let loose outside!
I got is shut off within 30 seconds of the first whiff, but it’s still pretty potent.
Reminder to everyone affected by the smoke: Wear a mask when you are outside. There are microscopic sized particulates in the smoky air that can be inhaled.
I learned that the hard way a few years ago. I sat outside at a restaurant after the jet stream had blown smoke from Canadian fires all the way down to Kansas. I started coughing very soon thereafter and had a persistent cough for the next 2-3 months.
Stay safe and avoid breathing in the smoky air.

I was gonna fertilize the lawn later before the rain but if it’s just going to get sucked up by a twister - forget it…
So, you don’t believe in seeding the clouds for more rain? 
I’ve been dealing with so many issues around here, I missed a lawn feeding, and it shows… Doing it. We had our baseball sized hail freak storm here in 2011 - we ain’t getting a tornado. lol

Nope, we had already decided that the smoke level was too high (162) before we found out that the competition is postponed until tomorrow. Sadly, I don’t think we can make it there by 8am when today’s games start (there are already games scheduled for Sunday afternoon).
I had actually mapped out where to go during the storms, but these look big enough that I don’t really want to spend an hour+ in a subway station waiting for them to pass.
Oh well, at least I got to a competition a month+ ago; just disappointed because our most favorite team is playing this weekend.
Pfft… You guys/gals in other states are funny. In San Francisco you cannot look down the street and not see a rainbow.

Funny. I can count on one hand the number of rainbows I have seen, and I am far from the youngest person here.
You really don’t want to go into any subway station during a heavy rain storm. The tracks sometimes get flooded over the level of the platforms. Please PM me.
I’m not talking about getting down to the platform; just low enough to be under the street level. I’m more concerned about the lightening risk rather than staying dry. But you’re right; some stations are not a good idea to be in (Pretty sure that Columbus Circle would be not so bad.)
I guess around there I could go into a hotel lobby or similar; but the only other option is the Dairy; I’m not sure that it wouldn’t get over-crowded.
Well, as of 9:40, AQI is down to about 90, and temp is a reasonable 74. If the air quality gets a bit better, I’ll open the windows and air out the house; one room in particular has been really smokey smelling (and of course, that’s the office where we mostly run the business from).
Looking forward to seeing those green dots on the air quality map.
