Apparently, there was a waterspout off of Asbury Park; kinda scary.
But we were like you; maybe with a bit less rain (based on radar), but still a lot. It will be interesting in a few days to check drought reports to see if this was enough to make a difference (we were right on the edge of “Abnormally dry” and “Moderate Drought”)

Yesterday was pretty heavy smoke for the first time this year. Nothing as bad as what the NE just went thru. This morning strong winds are blowing it back to Canada. Yesterday was hot and humid for our location (83 degrees). At 600’ elevation yesterday morning temp was 69 drove down the hill less than a 1/4 mi to sea level and it was 57. Don’t usually see such a split.
In respect to smoke trading, we (US) are exporting our share to Canada right now.
May have been weather related as we had rare lightning and usual strong winds but I was wondering why a Coast Guard helicopter flew so low and fast over my house yesterday evening.
Unit is working well. Interestingly, humidity in the basement is at an all time low for this time of year. It’s pretty obvious when the unit was broken on the graph. I have X-Sense data going back a couple summers. Guess that compressor has been on its way out for a bit…
BTW - Highly recommend X-Sense. Got 23 leak detectors, 3 smoke / carbon combo detectors and 3 temp / humidity sensors. Let’s me know if anything goes wrong, wherever I am in the world… Pretty cheap too.

From today’s WSJ, EU also battling unprecendented wildfires that are turning skies an unhealthy shade of orange-brown! Present temp in Tucson is 108 but skies are clear.
Daughter says it’s 117 in Phoenix! Feels like temp is 118 due to low humidity-and lack of precipitation (much like sticking head in an oven).
Tour de France is being cut short due to the fires.
And a peninsula near Bordeaux is being evacuated by boat, as the only road is closed.
I’ve not heard a death tally; but predictions a few weeks ago would be that it might be worse than 2003, when about 15000 died in France from the heat.
I have a feeling that A/C will become more popular in Europe as things keep getting hotter.
Our son lives in Phoenix. His air conditioner went out about a week ago. The new air conditioner was installed yesterday. Talk about being a happy camper today!
My son manages two cement plants. During this time of the year, they try to have all of the pours done by like 9AM and finished by noon. A lot of his work is done during graveyard during this time of the year.
When he comes to visit us here in West Texas, we are like a cool breezy day for him when we are 100 to 105.
It’s a balmy 66 degrees here at the moment…

I delivered a Ryder truck full of the belongings of a woman retiring to Prescott Valley from PA around 1988. It was June/July and by the time she got me to Phoenix for my red-eye flight back home, it was midnight and still 99 degrees on the bank displays as we drove toward the airport. People were out walking about like it was noon.
Yep, people in Phoenix adjust. I used to work a 3:30-midnight shift; I would often go hiking after leaving work. Not uncommon to see a dozen or more people out, even on a weeknight.
There’s a reason that Arizona doesn’t use DST; the day starts when the sun goes down.
