I also watched Hillbillies for a while a couple of years back; seeing the pilot makes a lot of things make sense (why is Jetrho with his uncle? etc.) Fun for a while, but I think I lasted about a dozen eps before I got bored with it. But a good show.
Futurama binge mode activated
Iām still waiting for my planetās flag to be incorporated as a possibility.
Since Iām a bot, and the last-known representative of Aliens On Earth, and (clandestinely) fond of Futurama to boot, my vote is that I be allowed to unfurl a ānationalā flag that features Benderā¦(preferably, w/o a foot in mouth, or lodged anywhere else, or that god-awful crown from the episode āThe Prisoner of Bendaā).
I didnāt watch the Oscars-and Iām grateful.
The membership had the chance to vote for Wicked, a wonderful musical w/ snappy songs or The Conclave, based on the Robert Harris political thriller. Instead they awarded four Oscars, the importance of which, in my opinion has been degraded in the last five years, to a comedy about sex-workers.
The critics attempted to explain the results by saying the membership is more diverse/ āedgierā. Fewer than 20K tickets have been sold to the public in the
U. S. outside the Academy membership. Wow!! Iām sure gonna rush out and see itā¦
Movies, tv, shows, etc⦠In my mind, these things are for watching, not for caring about.
I have never watched the Oscars, I donāt plan to, and my decisions to watch something or not has never been swayed by the number of awards it has won.
Sometimes I look around and wonder if other people would be as uncomfortable living in my head as I am living in their world.

There was a time when I used to watch the beginning and end of the Oscars, even though I usually didnāt agree w/ the Academy membershipās picks, to see recognizable stars and escorts wearing gorgeous clothes/jewelry.
I stopped doing so several years ago when their picks and actorās comments became, in my view, uncomfortable to watch. This morning, there are several posts/videos on-line whether the Oscars are still culturally relevant.
Though weāre vintage movie fans and often point our customers to movie adaptations of titles( we donāt sell these so no pressure), am sad to say, Hollywood is now insulated from reality and self-satisfied w/ it. Perhaps they always were-but under the thumbs of movie producing moguls, they hid it better.
We watched a bit of the Red Carpet, just to see the fashion. Glad to see that, unlike last year (or was it year before?), when there was barely any jewelry, lots of people, male and female, were wearing significant amounts of jewelry, with mostly a vintage vibe. Since our eBay store is larger than our Amazon store, and sells a lot of jewelry just like this, quite encouraging.
But really, other than professional research, not really interested. Heck, the only celeb I recognized before seeing the name was Halle Berry; no idea who most were even when the names came on screen.
As for movies, I canāt recall the most recently made that Iāve watched; possibly Guardians of the Galaxy, but I donāt think thatās even very recent (a HS acquaintance was in the second one; kinda cool)
TVA Code 1229, Fail Safe Mode Initiated. Thank you for your service.
Not watching anything right now, but just thought that Iād throw in a follow-up to my Oscars comments. Weāve seen a noticeable jump in jewelry sales since the Oscars; doing better now than in the lead-up to valentines day. Since itās a bit early for the Motherās Day rush, I think it might have had to do with the show.
Same show, was shown an ATT ad during one break, two breaks later, ATT ad in SPANISH. Yeah I dropped Spanish in High School when I saw no good exit on that language!
I am immune to influencers and Internet advertising.
I am immune to any advertising which is for a brand or product I have no intention of buying.
I scream at the ads for ASPCA which tell is what abused dogs are thinking and that awful Karz for Kidz ads which provide no reason to give them anything of any value.
If someone is advertising a drug, supplement or diet claiming a health benefit, I immediately question it, with rare exceptions. This is in spite of having a wife who ran an organic food co-op which was guided by Rodale principles.
Relative to Amazon ad bots, I find them the victim of the same problem most video ads have - too few companies who are suckered into poor returning ads, so the choices to present are mostly irrelevant.
It is worse when a streaming service returns a black screen with no sound for the time reserved for ads/
I get shown ads in Spanish all the time. Verizon ads and automobile ads, mostly. What a waste of advertiser dollars! I know about 26 words in Spanish from having travelled to Argentina and Uruguay back in the '80s.
Una cervesa, por favor?
I know more than 26 words of Spanish even though it was centuries ago when I took Spanish in high school and junior high.
I practiced my Spanish in parts of NYC.
Those dollars being wasted on streaming ads are very small. The big ad agencies and their big clients all know they are not worth anything and donāt pay much. Just like Internet PPC ads,
Yeah, I donāt understand why Peacock (which seems to be the worst) will show Spanish language commercials when Iām watching English language shows. Makes no sense.
Of course, doesnāt really bother me that much; I hit the mute as soon as the commercials start, so often donāt even know what language itās in.
But unlike Lake, I wouldnāt say that Iām āimmuneā to internet or streaming ads; although since if I have a reaction itās typically āIāll never buy that because their ads piss me offā, I suspect they would prefer that I was. ![]()
I am pretty offended by what the ad bots of some of streaming services think of me. I turn 60 soon but I do not need Medicare, life insurance or all your brand name medications, I donāt need ANY medications. Iām not over here watching Murder She Wrote on repeat.
Comcast seems to get a limited number of types of ads. I have Xfinity cable and they ad time Comcast has on major cable channels are similarly uninteresting. If you are not aware of it, the cable companies get some number of ad minutes each hours. That is why when you stream some cable channels on their own sites, you get the cable channels commercials, but not the cable operatorās commericals. Typically you see a logo and no sound during that period.
BTW Peacock is Comcast.
Further research needed here.
Iāve been watching Tubi lately and as much as 50% of ads are in Spanish. For car commercials, a few have been in Korean.
With the same ads being shown every 10-15 minutes, Iām thankful when I canāt understand the inane ad copy. Charmin is so much better in Spanish.
