Yeah this is many months late, but I had to jump in because I watched that speech live and I still remember parts of it like it was yesterday. It was electrifying! I was crying, I immediately went to the website of that Jimmy V. foundation and ordered a few âNever Give Up!â fundraising wristbands. I may still have one for inspiration.
Nisha saw that Barbie was on Tubi this month, so we decided to check it out. We figured weâd watch maybe 10-15 minutes for a laugh, then watch something else.
We ended up watching the whole thing, laughing pretty much the whole time. A surprisingly good movie; and loads of references that young viewers are unlikely to catch (and we missed quite a few).
Definitely recommend; at the very least, watch the opening credits. Anyone under 40 probably wonât understand, but an older movie geek will love it.
Starz has now dropped to $12.99 for the year when you pay upfront. Hubby is watching everything bloody (Spartacus spinoff?) I am awaiting the Outlander season 8 in March.
Weâre been watching My Life is Murder (Acorn) starring Lucy Lawless as Alexa Crewe (previously Xena: Warrior Princess), set in Australia and New Zealand(Confusingly, producers donât make clear which is which.) An on-going series, just beginning the 5th season.
Didnât know the woman could act-before, as Xena, she just ran around in midriff-baring outfits. Here, sheâs a ex-police detective and widow of a policeman killed in the line of duty, convinced to act as a cold-case consultant by her husbandâs ex-partner. Great views of down-under and strong characterizations by Alexaâs tech-support, indigenous actress Ebony Vagulans. The latterâs colorful clothing and wild hairstyles are enough to keep us tuning in!!
Alexa doesnât have a romantic interest, still being deeply in love w/ her deceased husband, which make the series different that many of its Britcom peers.
For the past decade, from our many years on a (now folded) pay-per-view platform, to the ensuing years on Tubi, Whozzit frequently waxed nostalgic about The Avengers, and said he wished he could watch it again.
However, it was never available â until recently, where itâs now on Tubi. Season 1 isnât offered, but weâre now on episode 4 of Season 2. Iâm not entirely sure what any of the episodes were about, because I fell asleep halfway through each one. All the characters talk non-stop and sometimes really fast, like they were trying to fit a 3-hour show into 45 minutes. Whatever, he wants to watch it and Iâm OK with an extra nap.
Weâve enjoyed that as well, although it ranks below some of the other murder-mysteries we enjoy.
The move from Australia to NZ was totally pandemic related, as most of the cast was in NZ when restrictions hit (which is also why the main male lead changed). That also lead to some of the guest stars, such as Bill Baily, who was at the time stuck in NZ.
And yes, she can act. I guess one out of two is not bad for the franchise of the time (Xena and Hercules).
Love the Avengers! Just quirky enough to catch oneâs attention w/ all the analog gadgets and cold-war spies!!
Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel made that show-plus her tight-fitting leather one-piece outâfits /knee-high boots(Interesting to watch husband salivate!!). Seen Honor Blackman in the role in the early episodes-but she was mild meat as opposed to Diana!!
We watched the series back in the 70âs-one of the local channels in Beaumont, TX played it at midnight on Saturdays. Originally got the series on VHS tape and later on CD as home recording evolved!! Ah, the good-old daysâŠ.
Season 2 was so boring, I told Whozzit that I wasnât going to watch (nap through) it any more. Whozzit finally admitted he thought it was pretty bad too, but he really liked Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel âŠ
⊠so we skipped ahead to season 4, when Mrs. Peel was introduced. Much, much better.
Hello, I have not been following this thread, but thought it an appropriate place to ask this âŠ
What are your New Yearâs movies? I have a long list of Christmas movies, but only three New Yearâs movies: Oceanâs 11 (the original), Last Holiday, and Showboat (this just because of Joe E Brown and his very happy way of saying Happy New Year)
My movie lists are comprised solely of movies I own (I own a lot!)
My traditional NY, movie is unconventional; Blazing Saddles.
For whatever reason, when we lived in AZ many years ago, one of the broadcast stations would show this late on NYE, with no edits (leaving in every âN wordâ), even though it was open broadcast. Seemed as good a time to continue watching it as anyâŠ
Also, for the general season, âThe Thin Manâ, which seems to cover Xmas to the new year. I canât think of anything that is really âNew Yearsâ specific.
Anything but those gawdawful countdown shows, with music acts most of which we never heard of, and insipid announcers screaming above the screaming crowds. Anything. I need to see if Tubi added any decent movies weâd both enjoy. (My standard for decent is 7 stars or above on IMDB.)
Except for a few choice sci-fi movies, thereâs not much we want to see twice.
At 7:00 ET, I found a live stream of the London fireworks. Great show, starting off timed to the sound of Big Ben.
Then at midnight, I flipped to coverage from Times Square. Had to mute a god-awful version of âImagineâ, then rewarded with just shot after shot of the corporate sponsorâs merch. Actually a big sickening.
Then I finished the movie (and the bottle of wine).
Seen them all, Love the tongue in cheek humor which pervades the series. It is a welcome relief from many of the Scandinavian and French series we watch which seem to focus on pushing limits on how gruesome a crime they can present.
Last night we watched a London West End production of Kiss Me Kate. It aired on the BBC last night and aired on PBS American Playhouse six months ago. It had a brief run in US theatres last November.
The Noel Coward score has aged well, they always do. Stephanie Block and Adrian Dunbar starred and did an excellent job, with a great supporting cast.
Have to admit to liking Adrian Dunbar, his series Ridley was another winner.
Have you watched âLine of Dutyâ? Itâs about a team from âAnti-Corruptionâ devision (british version of âinternal Affairsâ). Definity not âcozyâ, but interesting.
I did but it was long enough ago that I do not remember any of the details other than the stars and a young Keeley Hawes..
We watch a lot of UK TV the same day it airs in the UK or a day later,
Sometimes we would have seen it sooner if we had Britbox or Acorn, but we only have those services during the months Prime Video offers them for 99 cents, and sometimes not all of those months.
Britbox and Acorn are now offering âPremierâ service which for the former costs 150 bucks yearly(regular $109.95.) Acorn was $90, I think, having just paid for them as husbandâs holiday gift. Premier means subscribers donât have to wait a week or so to watch- programs are available to the US subscribers same/next day as British subscribers. Ask my better-half if he wanted me to plunk down for Premier. His horrified expression said no-donât think he knows exactly how much his gift costs presently unless he looked it up -weâve been subscribers for years! But we watch a lotta British TV-so the basic subscription is worth it to us.
Hadnât thought of MY LIFE is MURDER as a âCozyâ. Doubtful. Though thereâs little blood and the crime is off-screen; Alexa certainly isnât an amateur sleuth and Melbourne and Auckland are too sophisticated. BROKENWOOD, my husbandâs absolute favorite, might be a cozy. Except for the amateur sleuths, it fits most of the Cozy characteristics more than MY LIFE IS MURDER.
[1] Small intimate community. where folks know each other-or are related(Frodo is related to half-the town]. Mrs. Marlowe, unfortunately now retired, certainly knew everyone and knew all their secrets.
[2] Eccentric characters. Many times married Senior Sgt. Mike Shephard and his love of CW and his vintage 30+ year-old NZ Ford plus love-starved Russian Dr.Kadinsky and Frodo and the Frog and Cheetahâs owners and, and, andâŠ.
Looked it up. Wiki states BROKENWOOD is a cozy along MY LIFE IS MURDER!
