šŸ“ŗ What I'm watching

Rats! That’s what I’m afraid of, usually the first couple episodes are all about the set up. Sadly there is nowhere I can see to stream it on my TV set up. But with that cast, I’d watch anyways!

In case you wanted to know a bit more about the building in which ā€œOnly Murdersā€ was filmed:

I have only read about the show, but know the building. Incredibly elegant huge apartments built in the early 1900’s at the NEC of 86th and Broadway. The building has been through hell and back, with horrible owners constantly fighting their rent-controlled and rent-stabilized tenants, while neglecting all building maintenance.

Not sure how it came into new ownership and being renovated by a top architectural firm, but the building is on its way back, very quickly from dereliction to 10 million dollar apartments.

I’ve mentioned this before but it bears repeating  It’s pay-per-view in advance. We’ve subscribed for maybe 8 years or so. They get shows from all the networks including cable. 80 episodes are $20, which takes us 2 months to use up. much cheaper than subscribing to a bunch of cable channels. The first 2 episodes each season of a show are free. You can watch on smart tv or internet. No commercials.

Thanks for providing the links!

Yikes-reading the prices at the Belnord is like reading the MANSION section in the WTJ, fun to read but way, way above my pay grade.(In walking distance to Zabar’s is tempting-my husband loves smoked fish!)

I thought nearly all the northeastern 1% had moved to Florida-or Austin, TX- during the pandemic but apparently there are plenty left.

Today’s WSJ article on rats living in New Yorker’s cars or anywhere else where they can warm their little tuches didn’t encourage me to plan a trip in my old age. I’ll just continue to haunt the Met and MoMA web-sites and live somewhere affordable. .

My husband watched the first season after he caught me watching the remainder of the re 3rd season of Only Murders in the Building.

After re-watching, I’d say if you start at the 3rd episode of the first season, you won’t miss much except for some very funny dialogue during the murder victims memorial. There are lengthy flashbacks from the previous episode at the beginning of each episode(approx,30 minutes). NOT too late to see another golden oldy personality (SPOILER ALERT} whom the investigators meet in the elevator. .

So good

Trigun Stampede

I had no idea this existed, I only knew/have watched the OG series!

Also, in other news I am contemplating re-watching Phanton Menance, Clone Wars, and Revenge of the Sith. I have not seen these in many, many years. Would anybody like to talk me out of this? Or perhaps into this?

Did you watch Pantheon? It’s better!

Not a big starwars gut so not much to say.

Just a heads up for a highly anticipated mini-series on PBS Masterpiece.

Premiering in the USA on Saint Patrick’s Day, the first episode (of six parts) of Alice and Jack. Domhnall Gleeson (son of Brendan Gleeson) is one of my favorite young actors.

If you don’t recognize his name, you will recognize the face of Domnhall Gleeson, who played Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise.

I have watched very little new stuff other than Vox Machina. But I will give this a try!

Vox Machina is fun in a dumb way. Pantheon is existential material.

I loved White Lotus, absolutely hated Succession, despite the glowing reviews. I thought the dialog was just too snappy and contrived. Now I am rolling in the gutter with the third season of Shameless. Husband keeps asking ā€œhow much lower can they go?ā€ and they keep finding ways.Has the appeal of Hieronymous Bosch Garden of Earthly Delights, center triptych.

Finally got around to playing through the Last of Us video games (part 1 + part 2), and then finished season 1 of Last of Us. Surprisingly enough, they actually didn’t change much at all from the first game - which I suppose speaks to the excellent writing and voice acting in the first place.

Next up? Going to try Shogun (limited series that just started on FX a week ago.)

Just started watching ā€œHeartbeatā€ on Britbox on the recommendation of a friend. Quaint show that combines the two most popular themes of British TV: Doctors (wife) and cops (husband). Made in the 90s and set in a small village in the 60s, the soundtrack is all top-shelf 60s music (Beatles, Kinks, Moody Blues…). Highly recommend.

Have you watched any of the Doctor Blake Mysteries, with Craig McLachlan, set in small town Australia? If you liked Doctor Blake, try to find Brokenwood Mysteries, set in small town New Zealand.

Thanks, I’ve watched all the Dr. Blake Mysteries and will add Brokenwood to my list  , albeit an increasingly long list.

We’ve watched Brokenwood. Good show!

Yes, both are excellent. A new season of Brokenwood just hit Hoopla (no idea how long ago it was actually done), so we’re working through that slowly. Only downside is that the episodes are so long, it’s like watching a movie. Hard to fit into our nightly viewing schedule, as stopping a mystery in the middle to pick up the next day is a less than optimal option.

Also loved Ms Fisher mysteries (not sure if that’s exactly the right name).

Our friends Across The Pond are not as enamoured as We The People have been with the Miss/Ms designation since the differentiation - originally promulgated by such leading lights as the Grimke sisters, among others, in ā€˜modern times’ - became a political talking point back in the 1960s.

Well, it’s across the OTHER pond (Australia).

Looking it up, there are actually two series; the original ā€œMiss Fisher Murder Mysteriesā€, set in the 1920s, and she is sort of a flapper style-wise.
Then her niece or something like that is in ā€œMs Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteriesā€ which is set in early 1960s. Good, but not as good as the original (although I’ll admit I like the mini-skirts).
