I’ve seen bullying grooming - though it’s also possible that it’s more submissive/placation grooming - between my boys before when the idiots, who don’t believe in personal space, both insist on being right up in my face in bed. I think they tolerate each other at best. Plenty of hallway confrontations.
In a RARE act of common sense the Park Service decided to NOT euthanize the bison that attacked him.
They decided that wild animals behaving like wild animals was permitted in a natural setting…

Whether it is taking a “selfie” with a mama moose walking with her calf, a bison grazing alongside a road, or a venomous rattlesnake slithering along a hiking path, it seems that people will do everything they can to get that perfect picture. These selfies have resulted in being seriously bitten, tossed into the air, and gored in the stomach.
Supposedly, the “bison guy” was a grandfather with wife and grandkids in tow and was three times the recommended distance from the animal. They theorize the white pickup truck that comes into frame in the video and drives off angered the bison, which then went looking for something to attack. Grandpa got the bison’s attention to protect the others and that’s when the chase ensued.
That bison was angry even before the white truck as it was on a trot through the camp zone prior to stopping and rolling over in the dirt before the white truck drove by. Something pissed that animal off earlier and the white truck just re-triggered the charge.
Not to mention … June to September is bison mating season.
Yes I saw the full video on Fox news at least a dozen times. The grandfather and grandson were taking pictures across the road of the bison rolling in the dust at a camping site.
Yes, you can hear in the video the white truck (or some other nearby vehicle honking it’s horn. I expect trying to warn off the bison. Hard to say due to the angle of the shot, nearly straight on over the bison, to the edge of the road and in the grass area on the other side how far it was. Though at 30 mph vs. 12-15 mph, slower if you are older. Bison wins.
Yes he did, and it was reported that the grandson did “some fancy footwork” to get away, never on camera, and I think that is a good thing. The grandfather did not do bad, he used the trees to avoid the bison. Plus he kept moving. The amazon thing was the bison was rolling over trees that looked to be 6-8 inches in diameter.
Other past videos were shown of attacks, most within the same distance from the bison as this one. One two to 3 years ago where the family ran away, but the bison got a young child and launched that child in a similar fashion. A few years before that a motorcycle group had stopped to let a herd cross. A woman got very close to the herd, when she would have been gored but her clothing got caught and ripped off.
It is mating season, and that causes the males to be aggressive. Of interest was the tail. While rolling in the dirt it was spinning around, while on the attack it stood straight up as the bison thundered to launch the grandfather.
I was not witness to any of these events, only saw them on the news.
I had a 6lb Pomeranian who damn the Eagles, would not be contained to the house. She would bark at the door to go outside constantly. I worried about Eagles since we see numerous ones daily but after a while concluded her coat bulk made her appear much heavier. Often I would see her down the hill with an Eagle flying above but they never got her. Only girl dog I ever had that lifted her leg to pee.
Eagles? In that region I would think they would be bald eagles (fish eaters).
Rabbits, Chickens, you name it, but Eagles are lazy, stealing Osprey catch and taking over road kill from Buzzards when available. And yes, I misread the original post Eagles for Beagles
There is a bison herd not far from me. The herd is on land owned by The Nature Conservancy and is studied for research purposes along with the grassland ecology of the site. I’ve ridden along with researchers who have toured the bison enclosure. Those animals are HUGE. Below is a photo that I took years ago.
