Additionally, a āsaleā tag and strike thru is showing up for Makerplace Google Shopping sponsored ads.
Dang. I was wondering if that was the case. That defeats the purpose. Ughhhhh!!
Read moreā¦ nevermind.
MP is promoting this right now:
āItās our first big sale! Up to 20% off select storesā
and itās really just only showing the āselected storesā on that page, there isnāt any way for buyers to see āSalesā from any other stores.
It seems like the stores on that page are all doing 20% off on everything. Iām just wondering if those are the only stores that are doing 20% off sale, or if there are other stores doing that but not put on that page. Is there anybody here doing 20% off sales (on everything) right now?
Wish they would promote the āSalesā in some other ways that buyer can look up all the items with sales.
Yes. Iāve been running 20% and killing it however Iām not showing in any promos but all the google shopping searches display a sale tag and strike thru.
Yes. That that would be nice.
I wish I knew how they decide what to promote on google ads. My necklaces are the only thing they seem to be promoting, which is great, Iām getting steady sales on those. But they are more labor-intense items and sold at a higher price point. I wish they would also promote my earrings, many of which are at a lower price point and I think would do well in ads.
I see what you mean. I also noticed MP is only showing in the top carousel and not in the lower section of āall resultsā
As always, the items Iām inclined to put on discount are the ones with low or no sales history. Stuff which Iām beyond tired of, especially lower price point items that I just want gone.
Since I can no longer run coupons on Amazon for these items, itās MakerPlace or bust.
Most of these items are listed on Amazon only. I need to decide if itās worth the effort to list them on MakerPlace just so I can run a sale. If so, I need to start planning/listing soon if I want to take part in the July 4-14 event.
Thanks for mentioning about July 4 - 14 event. I totally skipped over that in the Saturday email.
I really donāt want to do 20% off discount on things I have on MP right now, but it might be worth it to add some non-selling Amazon items to MP for a 20% off sale to bring more interest to my store. Thanks for that idea too.
Yikes, did yāall see the new email talking about the July 4th sale? They want shops to offer 25 to 40% OR MORE off their entire shop. I am willing to give a discount on my MakerPlace shop since right now theyāre not taking a commission (or a very small one), but count me out on this one.
Ridiculous. Iāve been pretty vocal in the facebook group about the sales. Unfortunately Michaelsā business model is to have sales and coupons and it seems theyāre extending that to Makerplace - which sucks, because itās not a mass-produced model like their normal products.
My mom tried to find my stuff on there and couldnāt until she put my name in. So Iām debating how much work to put into it if Iām going to be hidden w/o running sales.
I guess I might do 40% after I first raise my prices 25% AND if I was willing to spend several days editing my prices in their wonky system. At least it would not be flagged for excessive price increase like on Amazon when running coupons.
NOT
My mom asked why I donāt just do this - and I had to explain how Iām on several marketplaces so it would be a nightmare.
I do discount my sets everywhere, but they are priced as marked. The only way I could technically make it work is to price them full price on MP and run a 50% off sale. Which I really really hate and donāt want to do. It just seems cheap and disingenuous.
I did set my store for 25% off. I have sales pricing already built into my regular prices, so I can afford the 25% off. Now on Etsy and Amazon, I donāt really āmindā putting things on saleā¦because recent sales help the algorithm and search results for both those platforms. I can spend money, advertisingā¦and never get a saleā¦or I can drop my price to get a sale. Itās either āmoney spentā or āless money earnedā and Iād rather go with the 2nd, because with āmoney spentā there is no guaranteed returnā¦where as āless money earnedāā¦well some is always more than none!
So can I afford to do 25% off? Yesā¦is it worth it to do that on Makerplace? I have no ideaā¦ I still canāt wrap my head around their SEO, it doesnāt seem to factor in sales of product at all. I have things that donāt have sales that rank higher than things that do have sales history. Such a mystery. But because I can offer 25% off, I willā¦just to see how promotion actually works I supposeā¦everything for science!
Overall on Makerplace I have sold 22 items since they opened. I have no idea if that is a lot or a little. There are people on Facebook complaining of no sales, and I know Wade has sold TONS. There doesnāt seem to be much other data that I can glean from various discussions.
Iāve been doing a 20% off just because it has been slow and I had too much inventory on my normally fast moving components. I have done pretty well reducing some inventory and with low transaction and referral fees and zero advertising fees, Iāve been happy with the results. It would be nice if Michaelās had ran a rotating carousel on all the shops running 20% off when they were pushing it last couple weeks instead of the select few they had.
I can do that on some items, but not the whole shop.
Before I got that email, I set up a coupon for 20% because that was the suggested number last sale. Iām debating whether I can swing 25% to possibly have those items featured.
I put maybe 10% of my shop on sale, although itās hard to say exactly because each variation counts as an item. In most cases, I have more variations (such as earring backs) than actual pieces available.
As per all my sales, these are items I want gone.
That makes sense. All of my prints are made to order (I keep no stock) so itās a tougher decision.
According to the email, youād need to put the whole store (ācreate a storewide saleā) on sale at 25% or more to qualify.
I was waiting for this email to see what the requriements are before I start listing slow selling AZ items on MP to take part in this sale event. Well, since I really donāt want to discount all my items for 25% off, there is no sense to add those new listing now.
I wonder how they are going to showcase this new sale? Creat a page with a thumbnail photo of each stores, sort like what they did last time but in a much larger scale?
What happens if there are large amount of sellers that set up the sale as required, are they still going to showcase everybody?
In your screenshot, the second part of their requirement (about their editors will be scouring the site for deals) sound more like they are going to pick and choose some sales, but no everyone, to be showcased.
Thanks for catching that. Storewide? ā not going to happen here. I guess Iāll keep the current 20% off select items in the dim hope that someone will stumble upon those pieces while browsing the larger MakerPlace sale.
