asking/pushing makers for 40% shopwide discounts gives me a very bad tasteā¦it shows their leadership team doesnāt have any real makers involved. Anyone who has spent any time looking at the handmade business model can tell you most sellers donāt have 40% in their profit margins alreadyā¦
Good point! Theyāre working from the retail assumption that thereās the industrial manufacturer cost (x), the wholesale price to distributors and resellers (2-3x), and then the retail price (4-6x).
They donāt realize that Handmakers are the manufacturers usually selling D2C retail at only 2-3x because making incredibly small batches by hand with non-transferable non-general skills (compared to industrial manufacturing) means that the handmade manufacturing cost āxā is already higher.
So they see a retail price and ASSume margin.
Whatās the name of the July 4-14 MP sales event? I want to add it to An SAS Calendar of Sales Events for Ecommerce in SAS Confidential (members only) .
Ugh I feel like maybe Iām not getting the Saturday emails again
The last one I got was on June 1st, has there been any since then ?
Also just saw in the Facebook group they changed the dates of the sale to 7/11 to 7/18. Itās on the post made 6 days ago they edited to change the dates.
Had I not been trying to search to see if I was missing Saturday emails I never would have gone back wards so far in the group to see they edited the old post to put new dates.
I just changed the date on my sale and all the items disappeared
Yes. The current one is 6/22.
Could you (or anybody here) please post a screenshot of that notice?
Iām not on Facebook and havenāt received any new email about the date change, but I would really like to know for sure whether the original sale (7/4 - 7/14) has changed to 7/11 - 7/18, or is 7/11 - 7/18 a different sale event?
Iām still debating if I want to do a store wide 25% off just to get some sales since things are so slow now, but really need to know for sure what the sales dates are.
Did you change the date on your active sales?, If so, how did you do that? As far as I can tell there is no way to āEditā any active promotions.
Thanks so much Wade for the screenshot, and thanks to @ModernSwitch for mentioning it, otherwise Iād not have known the change.
Did they post the change on 6/19, or sometime after 6/22 (Saturday email)? Youād think theyād sent another email about the changed, maybe itāll be in this Saturdayās email, I hope.
From what I see, they made the date change announcement on FB on 6/19, 3 days BEFORE the 6/22 Saturday Seller email announcement.
What a CF!
I changed the date on the sale, but the change kept flipping back. Since my items all disappeared anyhow, I just cancelled that sale and will make a new one later. Iāll go up to 25%, just because it might help people who search the sale, but it will still only be ~10-15% of my inventory. Iāll also import a few items from Amazon for the sale.
25% is a huge amount for me. To show the math: $20 item with 25% off = $15, minus Michaelās 10% = $13.50, minus āfreeā shipping = $9 net, minus supplies. Bupkes ā basically, a clearance-wannabee.
I changed the date as well and all my products disappeared as well from the sale.
So I deleted it and started a new sale for the new dates. I also hate having to choose the time.
I ended up making it last till 11:59 on the 18thā¦and yet on the coupon screen it says my sale is thru the 19th, went back into edit and says 18th inside. I wonder if Iām the only one who cared enough to make sure my sale lasts from the minute it starts till the minute it ends? I canāt imagine them promoting a sale to cover those dates and if people didnāt choose the exact times some stuff wont be on sale the whole time LOL.
With all the miscommunication and janky bugs I think only a handful of us will have a sale going on, will be interesting to see if I get any bites.
I do have some ālast chanceā listings at $7.50 that after 25% off I probably donāt make money once I pay for shipping but itās just at least not something that ends up in a trash can if it sells? I might just pull them and trash them anyway, its listings that havenāt sold in 5+ years on Etsy/Amazon, and Iām not getting the traffic I assumed a high profile place like Michaels would offer.
I honestly wish there was an easy way to to change prices. I overall raised my prices this week to $16 on Etsy/Amazon. At least Makerplaceās site is so disorganized that I doubt anyone will notice that some listings are $15 and some are $16. I donāt care. Iāll just issue a $1 refund if someone whines about it.
Iām am over this platform and Iām not editing 400+ listings. Itās just janky beyond belief. If you guys are in the Facebook group there was a survey they linked a few days ago, I forgot to mention it here. I gave them a real piece of my mind.

I used the terms bad code and inadequate code in several comments. Also, why canāt they trace the scammers and completely block them from the site and messaging?
Hmm? This problem went away for me quite some time ago.
I havenāt had any recently, but several people on the FB page were complaining about new scammers with the same old āCan you sell me 5 of these? blahblahblahā.
My new sale I created is also now showing no products, so who really knows what is going on over there.
Can one of you show me the steps you used to change the dates?
This is what it looks like of my Promotion page:
There is no āEditā button to change the dates of the sales. The āView detailā page is only for view, no āEditā button either.
So how did you guys changed your sales dates?
I donāt really need to change any dates right now myself, but just wondering how you did it since I couldnāt do it when I want to before.
