🆕️ MakerPlace: Sales and promotions

Now that MP big sales event is finished, how was it for anybody who did set up discounts for it? If you didn’t do discount, did the event help with your sales?

I set up 25% for the whole store, and didn’t get one order.

On top of that, the Stats page hasn’t been updated since 7/9, so I couldn’t even tell if I had more “Views” during the sales period. I emailed them about this problem more than a week ago, and it hasn’t fixed yet. :unamused:

This sales event was total disappointment for me.

I got 19 sales which by my normal daily average I would have gotten anyway so it did not help me. With variations, I’m way above the 5000 items that the system would handle so my sale got no “special promotion” for all shops with a 25% +. I looked at running multiple promotions to cover all my listings and see if that would get me into “special promotion” but with their wonky system it was impossible to try and figure out what did not get included in the initial “select all listings” for the initial promotion set up.

So yeah, total waste of time. The stores that did receive “special promotion”, at least in my category were very few with little to no rotation and largely “personalized” items.

I had 4 sales, I average I guess a sale or two a week…so it’s hard to say if these were people who sale the sale or were just going to buy anyway. Considering there was no “shop all items on sale” link I think its really hard to know if it was “successful”.

But I did sell one old discontinued light switch cover from a long time ago…so success! haha.

No, I had my average sales–I don’t even know the dates of the sale, lol, but I have had a steady average since April. It’s always the same type of item, and it’s the items they are advertising on Google Shopping, so my sales are coming through the ads and not organically from the site.

I only listed a few necklaces on MP, so I seldom look up that category, but recently when I checked “Necklace” category, I did notice a couple of your items was listed on top/bottom carousels for trending or favorite items in the category. It seems like that should help with your sales of the items. Is that not true?

Well, that is nice to hear!

Could be-- of course I have no real data in front of me telling me where sales are coming from. MP analytics are useless at this point. None of the “Top Search Keywords” in my reports page would lead to these particular items showing in search results. My top search term by far is “sea glass” which, well, I do have that term in a handful of earrings, but I’ve only sold one or two of those. :woman_shrugging: I do know that MP doesn’t seem to have any of my earrings advertised on Google Shopping, and I don’t sell earrings. They do have a handful of my necklaces advertised and those are pretty much the only things I sell. :woman_shrugging:

Here is one screen shot of what can displays on the top of page when I look up pendent necklace:

On the bottom of the same page, there are 3 of your necklaces in this carousel:

This is not really a “search” result, I just went to “Shop categories” to look up pendent necklaces, so I assume things displayed are the same to everybody, right?

I think I have seen them for a few weeks now, I assume those are the necklaces you are selling well. Having them showcased on those pages probably helped?

I had a 25% discount for 22% of my products. Zip, zero, nada sales.

The promised publicity never materialized. Under the carousels, there should have been a link “see more sale items in this category” but nothing at all — which means that 99.99% of all sale items were not searchable as such.

To add to the misery — my shop sale was set to go until 12:01am July 19, but all items went off sale early July 18.

Total waste of time. It’s not that “I” didn’t get results, it’s that the whole sale was poorly planned, poorly executed, and glitchy as all get go.

Maybe…but the majority of my buyers are men buying gifts and I doubt they are browsing MP categories. More likely they are typing something like “7th anniversary gift” into google search and clicking on the ad that shows. Again, just a guess…

This morning, unannounced to me, (at least I never saw notice) Makerplace (paid by Michael’s) is running a 5% discount off all my shop items. Anyone see a notice on this?

Not seeing anything about it on home page and only see it on the item detail page.

Never mind. Just found it here

Nice catch!

BTW, may I ask if you’ve noticed @Dave’s SellersASKSellers topic-thread posted earlier today (8Aug`24/080824) at the below link?

Where did you find this notice?

Thanks for mentioning it. I also didn’t know this “sale” is happening right now?

Just checked a couple of my listings, and they also have the 5% off sale, assuming the rest of the listing also have the 5% off, but didn’t really want to check all of them. My last order was at the end of May. Maybe this might bring some sales? Not holding my breath.

That “Sales event” in July was a total waste of time. Not going to offer additional 25% off for this “marketing opportunity”

My “stats” aslo hasn’t updated for a month, emailed support but the problem still not resolved. Maybe they only update your stats when you have orders.

On the Seller Saturday email.

Been down to a couple sales a day for last couple weeks. Had 4 sales this morning so maybe it has helped.

Have not paid any attention to this. My focus has been reporting sellers with mass produced Ali-Express products. Not that it has done any good.

Reviews seem to be working now but that are still not showing in Performance overview.

Since I have no sales, I want to know whether anybody actually are looking at my things, but my “Listing views”, “Click through rates” & “Keyword search” stats stuck on 7/9, hasn’t updated since.

Where do you find your “Reviews”? I’m sure I don’t have any, so have no idear where they are showing.

Yes I did. The survey was about how you source your materials. I guess Michael’s wants to figure out how to sell more Polymer Clay like there isn’t already enough polymer clay earring listings.

Well, they are not showing up in my stats but they are now showing up on the thumbnails and the product detail pages.

My stats are broken and I’ve had a few sales this week so it’s not that.

I think I have two sales set up? I kept getting all kinds of “product list can’t be empty” and I just keep mashing the schedule button and it finally just schedules it :woman_shrugging:

Which is pointless because I’m sure they haven’t fixed the whole shop on sale issue so anything I list won’t be included which wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t going to list a bunch of stuff for the contest. (it’s like the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing at makerplace).

If the sales tools are bugged or broken they shouldn’t be doing sale. But “sales” is the only marketing strategy that Michael’s seems to know :joy:

I wrote Seller Support a VERY long email after the July sale, detailing everything that was wrong, and how it needed to be fixed. Got a nice Thank You reply, but no news about anything specifically being done.

When the September sale was announced, I asked on the FB page if the July problems had been fixed yet. So far no reply.

Unless the issues are fixed, I’m disinclined to spend much (or any) additional time for September. We’ll see.
