I think we are going to be spared from Debbie in the NYC Metro. It’s more west / north.
I will be crossing state lines tomorrow for a pair of jobs. Not gonna be fun.
Be careful… Shouldn’t be too bad though. They were talking about 5-8" of rain the other day. Now I think it’s down to 2-3.
Agreed. When I looked at the radar this afternoon, it was already well west of the predicted path; looking at it now, looks like western PA will get it worse than NJ. Bad for them, but good for us.
About to depart. Checking things, plaining route to go over large bridge crossing on a bridge with sides rather then a “naked” one I could be blown off (small van).
Checking house, ready!
(75-80% is considered full for LPG tanks)
Even the phone is charged, lol
Not much rain from Debby, but lots of wind. And now we’re under a Tornado Watch. Oh boy!
If anyone knows where the “Three lanes begin 1 mile ahead” sign is, I passed it this am.
Every fiber in my body said DO IT! I didn’t. I filled up moments later.
Windy in current location, home looks dry but angry!
The weather prediction changed a lot in 24 hours. Mostly wind here, maybe some rain tonight.
Wind is insane and my wife’s car is parked under a city tree that I have reported 15X because it has saw dust constantly coming from its base.
She’s on day 29 of Federal Grand Jury duty and car pooled with someone to Queens BLVD federal court.
She has her keys with her…
The wind has died down quite a bit here in the last couple of hours (rain started, though). Hopefully you’ll be not too far behind.
It does seem a bit calmer. Skies are darkening.
We still have a pretty (currently) hefty squall line to get through. Looks like 6:30-7 arrival here.
Hope @Pepper_Thine_Angus is travelling safely today…
Yeah, that line looks rather nasty. I’ll probably see it 30-60 minutes before you; your estimate looks about right.
Although I notice that while the line is moving slowly east, it’s also moving north; it looks like the tail end of the worst part will just barely get to me, so you might see only the stuff that’s green on the radar.
Thankfully tomorrow looks better. The low temps we’ve been having have been nice, but the humidity is outrageous. We had the house airing out because our new sofa stinks (that “new particle board” smell); last night, I put my hand on the doorjamb, and it was wet! Had to turn on the A/Cs just to drop the humidity some.
And bonus, mail got picked up the way it’s supposed to, so no late afternoon run to the PO in the rain like I had on Tuesday.
The B-Dry guy we used for our French drain system also had the local franchise for Humidex (now called wave ventilation). I bought that from him too since the builder paid for B-Dry per new home warranty.
This house / basement is dry as a bone 24/7/365…
The only problem with that unit is it does suck a fair amount of conditioned air out of the house 24/7/365 to do what it does.
It also eliminates radon gas if you have that…
During the hottest days (which tend to be the most humid) - I do shut it off, otherwise the AC never goes off because we are cooling down outside too… It’s complicated
Our house turns 100 years old soon, so no modern HVAC; just window units, and a dehumidifier in the basement.
Only problem with the basement unit is that it also heats up the room. Tough to balance between keeping humidity low for the books, and temp low for the wine cellar, which is adjacent to the main basement room. (I really need to sell some wine; then I won’t have to worry so much. But selling rare wine is a PITA, even with connections).
So what you are really saying is that you plan on sampling on a regular basis?
This is the other end of the humidex… That vent is 2X larger than a dryer vent so tells you how much air is moving. It actually sucks the dust out of the first floor into the basement so we literally never have to dust our living area.
All it’s doing is pulling air from the lowest level which is where damp air likes to sit. It’s just airflow really. The unit is so powerful that it can’t be anywhere near anything with a pilot light because it will blow it out…
Wifey is almost home so her car will be safe…
I drink wine most nights; but rarely feel like opening a bottle that is worth more than an Amazon payout. I suspect my old boss could help sell it, but I’ve been lazy and not tried to get in touch with him (he’s one of those people who never checks e-mails, and he’s never at the office, etc.)
And as for sampling, I’ve done enough of that for a lifetime. I was actually a wine and spirits tasting judge for one of the rating companies, besides being involved in buying decisions for a major store. Doing serious sampling is too much like work; I just want to drink something nice.
I am home now!
After 6 to 8 weeks of hovering around 100 degrees and no rain, it feels so nice to have 6 days of mid 80s and some rain showers each day …
Watching the leaves on the trees … they should start changing soon …
The one in my front yard started on Wednesday. It’s always really early, although this seems extra early. What’s bad is that it has tiny leaves that not only tend to just go between the rake tine, but get tracked EVERYWHERE.
And I’m a bit worried about the leaf drop, because it’s a city tree; they’re supposed to come trim some dead branches, but if all the leaves are gone, they won’t know what’s what.
